Boost Mobile unlimited plan: Too good to be true?

Ahh the battle of the unlimited plans. Last month we learned of a new offering from Boost Mobile that seemed as though it would come in as the obvious winner, for those in areas well-covered by Sprint’s iDEN network at least. $50 each month, unlimited everything – or so we thought. As has become an unfortunate commonplace among service providers in various industries, unlimited doesn’t always mean unlimited and Zatz Not Funny! has inadvertently uncovered some troubling verbiage in the terms and conditions tied to Boost’s monthly unlimited plan. While searching for a new wireless broadband service provider, Zatz learned that Boost prohibits “unreasonable” usage and uses familiarly vague language to give the company an out in the event a subscriber is costing it too much money with heavy usage.

So, Boost unlimited subscribers, you should probably be aware that according to Boost’s terms you cannot use your handset to participate on conference calls, exchange an “unusually high” number of messages or place an “abnormally high number of calls”. You also cannot have atypical web usage and your calls cannot be repeatedly of an “unusually long” duration. How many calls are too many? How much web is too much? How many messages constitute an “unusually high” amount? Apparently, that’s for Boost to decide if it chooses to cut you off. Companies have been sued and fined time and time again for these shenanigans and we wouldn’t be surprised if Boost is well on its way to learning that the hard way. Hey Attorney General Cuomo… Where you at?

I’ve been using Boost since they came out with their FIRST unlimited plan on the CDMA network. I’ve never been cut off.
I’m on the new unlimited plan now. The IDEN works just as well. I think the internet may be a bit slower.
I like Boost and for the money, it’s the best plan out there.
Does it really matter how many IDEN towers are out there? There are no roaming charges. The different networks still have me a little confused.
As far as conference calling or 3 way calling…I’ve never had a reason to use it so it doesn’t really affect me.
All in all…THE best plan out there! (if they were iphone or Blackberry compatible…they would be undisputed)

Actually i don’t think that you can use the 8850 blackberry (nextels) on boost. Boost internet isnt compatible with the blackberrys.

you should see if you could find a used Boost phone and just activate it on a chat plan to test it out, that would cost you a maxium $2/day (ptt $ and 9pm n/w’s, text, web another $1) at $.10/min peak and use that as a gauge

I have been using Boost Mobile for 5months now, after closing my Ntelos acct in Virginia. As with all cell phones companies, things happen, such as dropped calls, or the bleep of not being able to find a tower (very rare but has happened) but I have been HIGHLY satisfied with the service. The price is constant, the services are unlimited, the walkie talkie is nice, i can check my email with my phone, unlimited text messages. I am very happy with it and have recommended it to several friends who have also jumped on the bandwagon. The only irritating thing I can think of is that you begin getting a weekly text msg reminding of your upcoming payment two weeks before its due, but that’s all I find negative.

Im committed for as long as it exists…

Mike, what is the plan that blows this away? As of now there are 3 cheaper providers but only one has a true national presence with only 20mb of data (Page Plus) thru vzw and the others are regionals trying to be national (Metro PCS and Cricket) although none of them offer ptt

I’m considering switching to Boost, but I run my business (Real Estate) much through my cell phone. Among calls, texts, & smart phone accessible email, I use my phone a LOT.

I’m concerned I’ll be kicked off just when I get started. Does anyone use the Boost service most of the day without problems?

I have been with boost mobile for about 5 years, before they even had an unlimited plan for any of their phones. I have never been subjected to any of these extra fees, or told that I was using my phone too much… as a matter of fact everytime I buy and new phone, boost mobile puts at least $30, and no less than $80 on my account, for continuing my service with them, there are things boost could change in their service, and phone style, but they are still a fairly new company, and I think their service is great. I will be a Boost Mobile customer as long as they are around

    boost user says:

ive been a SPRINT customer since 1996 and recently switched to boost. I thought since sprint owned boost it would be just as good for a lesser monthly rate…..I cant wait to get rid of boost and get back to sprint. the whole area code thing on the phone makes it impossible for my friends to add me to their contact list (with and without area code) it doesnt work they cant dial me from their list. they have to manualy dial incl area code.the text messaging is notg as good, so if you use a lot of texting its not for you, no emotions sybols and fowarding pics or text messages are not free, fowarding anything generates a cost, the cost is then deducted off the $50 you paid and once any cost is applied against the $50, you are no longer on an unlimited plan you then begin being charged by the minute…and they dont tell you that. they isnt any bill for the addtional cost, it is directly applied against the $50 and if you dont have a full $50 on your account you are no longer on the unlimited plan. so you phone can just shut down. also be aware the same applies with 411 use it once, the cost is applied against your $50 and anythinbg less than $50 on you account takes you right off the unlimted plan, so you are better off keeping extra money on your account……also if anyone knows how to program the area code to the phone please let me know. my friends have to go to contacts get my number then exit contacts and manualy dial me…its a real pain. so i need to try to program the phone. the address/phone # has an area code, but the phone is not programed the same….any help would be appreciated. they only have this prob with my phone # in their contact list

Boost works fine for basic service (unlimited calls and text). Their phones are not so good, and if you need to send and recieve e-mails with pix and data all the time, this svc is not for you. I like the $50 a month flat fee. Well worth it after you’ve been raped by every other service out there. It’s basic phone service and it works well for me…
