Meet the HTC Magic, the Android-powered Vodafone exclusive formerly known as the G2

Y’all might know the next Android phone from HTC as the G2, but around these here parts we know it as the HTC Magic. An exclusive to Vodafone in Europe, the Magic is of debatable sexyness when compared to the T-Mobile G1 (and looks very Sony Ericsson, does it not?) and just happens to be one those phones that we’re just dying to know more about. But for now we can safely say that the Magic will feature HSPA, WiFi and GPS connectivity along with a 3.2 megapixel camera — sans flash — and of course come with a healthy dose of that sweet, sweet Cupcake that so many of you G1 users are clamoring for. Now we can’t say with absolute certainty when this thing will released or even announced, but since MWC is going on and with CTIA just around the corner, now is as good a time as ever to steal the spotlight from those damn pesky competitors. Oh, one more thing… don’t be too shocked if the name Magic is replaced with Pioneer. Just sayin’. Hit the jump for some more shots.

There are up to 40 Android handsets coming in the next year, hang tight:

I really wish it had a real keyboard but at least its a little better looking and gets a 3.2 MP camera.
Dude the G1 has a 3.20 camera as well
Great Can’t Wait!
A+
If you are wondering why no headphone socket that’s probably something to do with apple. I believe they told Google / HTC that they wouldn’t give them a licence. Apple own the patent. Also goes for multi-touch.
a licence for a headphone jack, you gotta be kidding me……
Headphone jack licensed nope. If that was the case it wouldn’t be on the blackberries
At least the chin isn’t as pronounced as the G1!
Neil, Vodafone owns 45% of Verizon. Verizon owns some share of Vodafone _Italy_ only (I believe under 10%). While the two companies are comparable in terms of customers or revenues, as World-wide presence Vodafone is undoubtedly superior.
Cheers
M.
Mercury, please spell it correctly: Vodafone is not Vodaphone!!! that is so weird you Americans can never get it correctly
I think you will find it is Vodafone that owns 45% of Verizon not the other way round
Actually Vodafone own a 45% share, making them a minority partner, of Verizon Wireless which is a joint venture of Verizon and Vodafone. Verizon itself is a separate company.
Vodafone uses GSM on all their system while Verizon Wireless uses CDMA. These are completely different technologies so this particular model isn’t coming to Verizon Wireless… ever.
Charger/headset jack is the same microusb slot on the bottom (3rd pic), which matches the G1. Also, hello? Bluetooth?
G2 has the keyboard and a full screen and a touch screen
Ck the website, u will see it
well i hope this fone makes it to verizon it looks like ifone did wen it first came out the g1 is nice and all but this 1 is thinner and has virtual keyboard like ifone i cnt wait plz b verizon
@Cesar – Actually, Vodafone owns a large stake in Verizon Wireless (and nothing else Verizon), not the other way around.
uuummmmm there is definitely a headphone jack for those of you that are blind!!!!! maybe you should take another look at the pix!!!
Just as a heads up, this site has the user manual on their homepage
the usb doubles as headphone, not sure if that limits what we can use still waiting on mine to be delivered so will check then
hi there,
i have a doubt about this htc, because i don’t know what is the process of the gps.
- The maps are already in the phone.
- You must download the maps from the net.
- OR we must pay to have them or activate the service.
please answer if know..
HTC Magic. I tried to set up Wi-Fi but was unsure whether to leave a space between pairs of digits for the WEP. I decided not to and the result is that WiFi doesn’t work. I can’t find a way to change the WEP – if I input a new WEP (eg with spaces, hyphens, commas – I’ve trird them all) but there seems to be no way of saving the new WEP – and it doesn’t work anyway!\r\n
Can you help? (plain English for an old codger, please!)
