Verizon’s Versa headed to market on March 1?
If you’re a Verizon customer who is looking to get a new touchscreen device without breaking the bank, you might want to mark down March 1st in your calendar. Rumor has it that’s when the LG Versa will go on sale and while it might not be the most impressive phone Big Red’s stable – with its dumb phone OS, simple 2 megapixel camera, a basic web browser and a dreaded stylus-operated touchscreen – it does have a rather peculiar way of adding attachments that some people are sure to think of as being the neatest thing since sliced bread. You see, the Versa is designed to allow users to customize it for certain tasks through after-market purchased dockable modules. Like what, you ask? Some of the modules we’ve seen include a “how bad are the default speakers” speakers, the “are you admitting that typing with a stupid stylus is an exercise in futility” full-QWERTY keypad and our personal favorite, the “why the hell does that guy need to attach a bulky add-on to his phone to get Wi-Fi” Wi-Fi antenna. Get the feeling that it’s in your best interest to save up a little longer and get a Dare?

I was waiting on this story, this is a slick idea for a device. I wonder how it will be implemented, as far as device price and if a data plan is necessary?
@Michael Bettiol who said: “… certain tasks through after-market purchased dockable modules. Like what, you ask? LMGDAO at this horrendous trainwreck that will be DOA. Even where the low, low standard of unsupported, proprietary OS’s, unsupported browsers, and gimmickry up the ass are concerned, this FrankenToy has found a new low at the bottom of the barrel. Just how many 12 year-old girls with idiots for parents does Verizon believe exist?
Which leads me to …
@DonLouie / aka MrMultiLoginTroll who idiotically stated: “I wonder how it will be implemented … if a data plan is necessary”
You text through your minutes plan while you click your ruby slippers together, Princess. Idiot.
Hm, I disagree that a stylus-operated keyboard is necessarily that bad- I could type pretty fast with the one on my Palm TX. (Certainly faster than I ever was at graffiti…)
I don’t know, it seems like this would be alright if it was like the Dare standalone (and would replace the Dare), and in addition you could get the add-on modules, but if you didn’t you would have the Dare or equivalent. But then the Dare has a better camera?
What makes an OS smart or dump. I thought I knew but with all these different phones running different OS everything is just to confusing. If Rim, WM, Iphone and Android are smart why isn’t this phone.
Well the line is somewhat blurred… but really, I think this will likely end up in the “Cell Phones” section of Verizon Wireless’ website, (like the enV2, the Dare and the Voyager) not the “PDA/Smartphones” or the “BlackBerry Devices” section, and that’s the most definitive way to tell I guess.
Great write-up!!!! Funny, funny stuff. Love it!
Big red, cut prices, take on the best handsets, able Wifi, Gps and the result: sprint will close, ATT will drop in enrollment, and the numbers will be “verizon 120 mill, ATT 40 mill and counting. Just do the right thing.
Sometimes I read stories that I don’t even care about to see if backbeat will chime in.
I’m probably the only BGR frequent that likes backbeat. He/She makes me laugh… A lot. Even if it as at your expense Don Louie, I still laugh. Makes me day happier.
I am still wondering when will Verizon come out with some better phones?? If they think this phone is going to be a long liner they are crazy.
not every phone can be the storm, iphone, or bold people. Some people want basic features, and a fun design.
