Unfortunately the 5800 does not work with verizon. Verizon uses Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The 5800 uses Global Systems for Mobile (GSM). This requires a Subscriber Identification Module (sim card) for the 5800 to work. The blackberry Storm for Verizon uses CDMA and has a slot for a GSM simcard so it can be used when your overseas. The only drawback to the Storm is the lack of Wireless Fidelity (WIFI)

Finn or anyone really, is the 5800 compatible with verizon? It might be a dumb question, but im not really tech savvy at all and have no clue. I am currently overseas and thinking about buying one and taking it back to the states with me, would it work?

I got 5800 for $339.15 dollar when I bought it over the phone (instead of online) without even buying a 2nd handset or accessory. just told the sales agent that I would buy if they give the 15% discount. It worked!!

I ordered one. Hopefully resistive touchscreen is better than in N800.

price is higher than the euro counterpart but given the features i would rather spend money on nokia than iphone! besides i strongly opppose paying $30 just for data for iphone as i hve access to wifi everywhere i go. but the most ridiculous and stupidest return policy of nokia will be a deal breaker for me – 15% restocking fees! its about $50-60 and thats how much the difference bet euro and nam version, so i think its worth considering. plus, nokia does not have a store everywhere that u can at least try the phone b4 buying…

Of all people, I thought I’d be the first person to jump on this, but the gap between the Euro launch and this version has been too long. I’ve been waiting 3 months for 3G, another 3 for the N97 doesn’t seem so long now. If anything, I’m more interested in offloading my Euro 5800XM before it loses its value anymore than it already has.

Nokia needs to get their shit together when it comes to releasing Euro and NAM versions.
