Images of a purported new iPhone casing emerge
It goes without saying that this is nothing more than a rumor, but alleged images of the next generation iPhone casing have surfaced from China. Said to feature a slip-resistant matte black coating and be made of metal as opposed to iPhone 3G’s plastic, the case in the photo even features a new model number of A1303 and all of the appropriate FCC ID numbers that are not usually found on your typical iPhone-related fakery/Photoshop job. One thing of note is that while the rumor does state that the back casing is made of metal, as you’ll see in the last photo after the jump looks suspiciously like it was made of injection-molded plastic. Plus as anyone who had the first iPhone will remember, the reception was often extremely spotty due the metal backing interfering with RF signals. On the flip side of the coin however, the leaked iPhone 3G case that ended up being real last time around originated from the same spot as these photos – the iPodObserver blog. Granted it wasn’t quite as far before the 3G’s release but hey, you never know. Hit the jump for a couple more pics.

I would guess that if anything it is the much rumored “stripped down” version. The 2g iPhone has a model number of A1203 and the 3g is A1241. The model number on this puppy is A1303. But as always with Apple, we shall wait and see…..
I will be better than that crap that BB put out…. the bold (what a joke!)
A slick non-slip black case would be a welcome change from fingerprint-city. That surface treatment is more expensive to produce, but a welcome change nonetheless.
Let’s hope there is more upcoming change under the hood.
If it’s true, it means that the new iPhone will basically be the same thing, no physical changes.
I am not a iPhone owner so I am not for sure what the 3rd screen is a photo of, but is this suggesting that the new phone will have a removable backing or that this is just a photo of the iPhone with no back…?
Don’t know if I’m gonna like this material, looks kinda odd tbh. Metal will cause RFIs.

@Don,
It’s a picture of the back bottom of the phone. I doubt the new one will have a removable backing since Apple has not used them on any of their iPods either.

looks like they’ve decided to stay with the lame no flash camera
I think you meant the Storm not the Bold. The Bold is a great phone for a non touch screen phone. I just hope this iPhone is better for the business environment.
welll i think is a little early we still got to june …i dont like it if u look at it there’s not much change
I don’t think its metal. A few years ago, Apple filed a patent for making cellphone cases from zirconia ceramic. Won’t inhibit RF wavelengths and stronger than regular plastics.
if it is matte black, then why do you see the glare from the camera flash or lighting in the surrounding area when the photo was taken?
oh i don’t know…. probably because when you shine a light on something and take a picture, not only do you capture a picture of the object but also the reflection of the light source off of that object. grab a flashlight, turn it on, put it close to something you could forsee yourself snapping a pic of with your phone, and look at it through your camera viewfinder. voila! you have reflection!
looks like teflon or some kind of ceramic like my man said above not metal.
I think the third pic is the front of the phone with the front panel taken off. Notice the button holes on the left. And with the camera on the right-front, that may mean video conferencing.
@ccbscott:
That third pic is the inside of the back of the iPhone. If you compare the picture to a current iPhone you will see that if you were looking at a current iPhone from the inside of the back cover, that they camera holes are in the exact same position as well as the silence/vibrate and volume buttons on the side
@Maikel who said: “the new iPhone will basically be the same thing, no physical changes”
Not exactly.

@MadMike: If that’s zirconia ceramic, it’s had a surface treatment to produce that uniform matte effect. Usually, that type ceramic has a high polish in finished products. I’d certainly like to see that produced.
And -if- it’s ceramic, hopefully, it’s not coming from a notorious French supplier.
^interesting article you linked to at msnbc.com about speculation on what the next iPhone may offer.
What kills me though is they have a permalink “new phone” in the second or third paragraph. For some reason, it takes you to verizon’s page of what 3G is. odd?
Even if this new iPhone has nothing more new it’s still worth getting. They will prob use the cpu from 2g touch and those things run SOOO much better.

Wouldn’t this be taken down by now by Apple if it was official?
Ughh from the looks of it STILL no flash . And hopefully better video recording at 30 frames per second .
And that reminds me of the same material that covers the top of my dell xps … fingerprint city if you have oily hands . From freshly put on lotion or sweaty hands or whatever .
Anyway I dont think its real .
its a fake no doubt about it
@TRV$: Those aren’t permalinks. They’re embedded ads. Hover your pointer over them and you’ll see both Verizon and TMo ads there. I hate those ads too. So cheezy.
no guys, this is the freaky friday the 13th bullet proof Obama edtion iPhone. the secret service decided his BB wasn’t pulling its weight.
