Two more Acer handsets get pictured; doubt continues to build
Rumors of Acer’s mobile comeback were greatly exaggerated – or so it would seem from the company’s forthcoming MWC announcements thus far. First it was the extremely odd swivel screen handset we scooped last week and now two more ugly homely bulky handsets have found their way out into the wild. First up is the touchscreen X960 seen above to the left. As far as specs beyond the familiar form factor go, you’re looking at a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen (640×480), 3G, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth, GPS, microSDHC support and a 3.2 megapixel camera with a flash. A 533MHz Samsung processor runs the show and if you can get past the bulk it’s actually a pretty decent handset. Does it offer anything unique or special worth getting excited for? Not that we can see…
Next up is the double-sided DX650, a very polarizing handset – you’ll likely either love it or think it’s an abomination. The most notable aspect of the handset of course, is its dual-faced form factor. One side is home to a sizable 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen while the other holds a tiny 1.27-inch monochrome LED display that sits atop a standard 0-9 keypad. It’s not pretty but it is on the unique side of the handset spectrum. Specs-wise little has been revealed but a safe guess would be to presume it’s relatively in line with the X960. Both handsets will run Windows Mobile, hopefully 6.5, and will be showcased at MWC along with their swivel-screened cousin. Meh. Hit the jump for a few more pics.

Thanks, Dan!

Holy $h1t…. Is that thing a sat-phone or what?
Big swing … and a miss, Acer (outside of the dozen they may sell unlocked)
OMG! WTF! LMAO!
hmmm… I assume these weren’t designed with the average consumer in mind?
FAIL!
Ew. I think I just threw up a little.
Long live E-Ten. You will be fondly remembered.
Are you kidding me? To top it off, it must be packing Windows ‘freaking’ Mobile!!
At first I thought that the X960 might be running Android when I saw the necessary five buttons, but neeeoppe. Windows is clearly branded on the back in the second picture after the jump.
jad;ofjadsk
Jinkies! It’s what people in the sixties thought phones would look like in the 2000’s. Like Scooby Doo meets the Jetsons in a bad way…
I bet it’s windows mobile 6. Both are such ugly phones which remind me of 2007.
This is something id buy at walmart or target and give my 1 yr old to play with so hed stop talking on my tv remote
@NuShrike: E-Ten would not have produced -this-, I believe. Leave it to Acer-the-low cost-leader to disembowel E-Ten’s excellent design efforts.
I’m sorry, did that thing say monochrome?
Acer, look here: I can get calculators with color screens. It is 2009. I need you to get you shit together.
And Zach, the only thing polarizing about the DX650 is whether the hideousness is so extreme that it makes you pass out or merely projectile vomit.
Good grief. Have those guys heard about the iPhone? Hell, have they heard about the HTC Touch series?
… do they know we landed on the moon?
lol the only news I see here is that these 2 phones are hideous.
Ugh. Looks awful. Let’s see where it comes in price-wise.
When I heard the news about the acer phone comming out. I thought it was going to be like there laptops. but i guess this phone cant hold up to the reputation and the name of acer and there netbooks and laptops.
