Visual Voicemail for BlackBerry shows up in AT&T OLAM system

For the record, we’ve been aware of this one for quite a while, but it looks like Visual Voicemail for Blackberry is coming on the very near horizon for current AT&T Blackberry customers. An eagle-eyed tipster alerted us to the presence of a new feature option in the account management system that allows current ‘Berry users to add Visual Voicemail to their account. The system doesn’t allow you to complete the request, returning an error message if you attempt to add it, but it’s a solid indicator that the carrier is preparing for its release. Even better is the current price point in the OLAM system: $0.00. Free Visual Voicemail doesn’t sound so bad now, does it? We’re still not sure when AT&T plans to make this thing fully official, but any day now is a pretty good bet. And we’re also not sure on that free pricing, but we’ll see!

Thanks, Mjkamdar!

as a side note I happen to see the icon also on a Blackberry Storm within the Verizon store yesterday and was informed that it’s available there for an extra $2.99 a month. It’s too bad that they Rim/Verizon chose to charge for something that Apple already provides for free.

Ok, so I just upgraded my Blackberry to a bold last month, and I am getting a text (SMS) message every time I have a voice mail. Does anyone know how\where to turn this off? It is very annoying, as it is another freakin thing I have to delete, in addition tot he voice mail message, which half the time is my office ssytem calling to tell me I ahve a voice mail there.

Plus I don’t want to pay for these texts.

Due to a new corporate policy, I was just forced to downgrade from an iPhone to a Blackberry Bold this week – I can’t believe BB’s don’t have this feature yet. It’s like stepping back into the 90s.

For anyone having the “provisioning unsuccessful” error, here’s what worked for me.

    1. I switched my plan option to Visual Voicemail on ATT’s website.

    2. Downloaded all the updates through desktop manager (I doubt it matters which method you use for this step.)

    3. The visual voicemail icon appeared, but said “provisioning unsuccessful” once the app was opened.

    4. CALLED MY VOICEMAIL NUMBER and went through the set up process again. Specified a new password.

    5. Launched visual voicemail app. Entered new password. Seems to be working now.
