Verizon Wireless in the midst of laying off employees?

Despite solid Q4 2008 earnings, Verizon Wireless is apparently not layoff-proof in this struggling economy but then no company is. Rumor has it that Verizon is in the process of an unannounced work force reduction that began yesterday, February 9th. The rumored layoffs will continue through the end of the month and will affect an unknown number of employees from management level down. As always is the case, low performing employees and those facing disciplinary action are at the highest risk of losing their jobs. This is certainly a difficult economic time and even successful companies may be prompted to let employees in an effort to minimize the impact of the downturn. We hope that this rumor is not as dire as it seems but if it does pan out our condolences are certainly with all who are affected.

Thanks, M!

UPDATE: Here’s what we think happened after talking with some people in the know… it seems as if this is concerning employees associated with Circuit City (estimated at around 240). Since they are Verizon Wireless employees, Verizon is said to have tried and relocated as many of them as possible to other stores, etc. We’re told that the employees that were let go got severances packages including outplacement services to help them find other employment.

first off Hector you are wrong the problem is the people like myself who are honest and have integrity and inform their customers about everything they are getting are the ones getting tossed to the curb while the assholes who have no integrity are the ones still working. Nice try!

Yes T-mobile is always hiring, but to forewarn you it takes a certain type of personality to be a successful T-Mobile rep. They don’t just hire you to fill positions that they have open. They hire you wanting you to grow with the company. If you are just looking for a job T-Mobile most likely isn’t for you. Anyone can answer phones or sell phones but to be successful as a tmobile rep you must be willing to learn to live the T-mobile values. It is a life style change for some but it worth it knowing I work for the best phone company out there. Tmobile is the best place to work, as it’s been reported by forbes magazine. They treat their employees like people not just a number and hire within.

ATT has a union so crap like this doesn’t happpen. True it may hurt us in the economy by having a union and going on strike but I’m glad to know my job is safe as long as I don’t screw it up. I know I used to work for verizon and there’s a lot of corporate BS there. I worked in the IL/WI and there’s not such thing as an open door policy. In fact everyone knows everyone and talk about each other like its high school all over again. One reason I switched to ATT was because of the union and how they help union memebers maybe not all the time but they at least help. VZW won’t have a union because they know that if they did they would be sued over all the BS they do to their employees. VZW is CORRUPT!!!!

Well Sprint isn’t that bad and they don’t have a union for corporate wireless. It has been a tough couple years, but they do care for their employees overall and such. All those I know who work for VZ and TMO and ATT say the same and feel that they have a pretty good gig, though we all wish it was better. If you don’t like “corporate BS” then don’t work for a corporation-end of story.

Sorry VZ obviously fired you, but it doesn’t make every carrier/corporation “corrupt”. Every employee I know with the angst you have ends up fired for one thing-attitude. You are free to strike, complain-whatever. Still, if you expect the moon for doing a job that others can do for tons of cash, we all end up as the Auto Industry where the union won’t give up their executive 9 million dollar golf course (that we are all now paying for). Don’t let the company OR the union take advantage of you being mad or feeling “ripped off”. Quite whining and make your company better so you get promoted and lose the attitude-trust me….

I wasn’t fired from VZW I quit b/c of the BS there It was too stressful going to work and having to deal with 12 people that have no clue how to work together. I was the #1 sales Rep in the district every month for 1 year and the 22nd slaes rep in the region out of 5,000+ employess trust me I didn’t get fired. I do the same for ATT and no Corporate BS. Overall just a better company to work for. Selling is easy for me somethingt hat comes natural and for that I will always have a job.

Yes hector you truly define the arithmetic man: you add trouble, subtract pleasure, divide attention & multiply ignorance ! What a douche bag ! Tell that to the kids of those sales reps & their families who possibly can’t eat ! Typical lesson here: reason why our country is in ruin cause of imbecils like this !

Not all sales reps are out there to rip ppl of, thats an ignorant thing to say. VZW laid off employees due to CC closing and the alltel merger. Alot of good employees got laid off and some of the “bad” reps are still there. This is just the start of the down fall of the “best company”. they just keep on making mistakes with their employess and how they are treated
