Verizon revamping prepaid pricing beginning February 11
Verizon Wireless customers who opt for prepaid service as opposed to standard postpaid plans are in for a surprise tomorrow — or at least they were. One of our trusty ninjas just came through with a slide deck detailing a revamped prepaid offering that will go into effect starting tomorrow, February 11. As with all change there’s good news and bad news, but certainly not all prepaid users will be impacted in a bad way. So let’s get to it… First and foremost, new plans and new pricing:
- Prepaid Unlimited Talk (replaces Power): Access goes up $1 to $3.99 per day, unlimited peak / unlimited in-calling / unlimited night & weekend, SMS goes from 2¢ to 1¢ each
- Prepaid Plus (same name): Access stays at $1.99 per day, 5¢ peak / unlimited in-calling / unlimited night & weekend, SMS stays at 5¢ each
- Prepaid Core (same name): Access stays at $0.99 per day, 10¢ peak / unlimited in-calling / 10¢ night & weekend, SMS stays at 10¢ each
- Prepaid Basic (new option): No access fee, all calls are 25¢ per minute, SMS are 20¢ each
Beyond the plans there are a whole bunch of other tweaks such as access to the newly-acquired Alltel coverage areas and new monthly messaging bundles – prepaid customers can now purchase unlimited mobile to mobile messages and 250 additional messages for $10 per month or straight up unlimited messaging for $20 per month. @Justin – They aren’t paying $119.99 for the phone itself.. They are paying $19.99 for the phone and the other $100 is for a refill card.. (Note: Read under New Prepaid Packages)…
Damn, I have a contract with them and overages on messaging costs me .20 per message! I wish it were .05 or even .01!

you guys are hilarious, you act verizon is FORCING you to use their network. Go with Boost, or cricket if that fits your budget. But complaining about a completely voluntary service is insane.
We all have freedom of choice, so use your pocketbook to voice your opinions on a cell carriers offerings.
After being shunned for 4 years now as a Boost user, I’m looking smarter with each “new” pre-paid plan the other guys introduce as a “deal”.
On the unlimited plan, $4/day means $120/month. You get super-cheap texting, but still, that seems a bit rich, especially for a pre-paid plan.
people has to be fools not to go with boost 50.00 for unlimited everything an no taxes what it wrong with people i really would like to know why people is paying 50-70 more a month for the same plan they can just get with boost

I used to pay at least $400 a month postpaid with Rogers in Canada, and sometimes they add unexplainable amounts that take the total above $1000/month. That’s why I quit Rogers. These Verizon prices seem unbelievably affordable by comparison.

I’m swiching to Boost – $50 for everything plus free Chirp/Walkie-Talkie and no telecom taxes.
It’s $170/month with this VZW plan if you add the $20 text/pic package and the $0.99/day web fee. CRAZY!!
Checked out MetroPCS but their network sucks – major problems with dropped calls.
I am have been a verizon prepaid customer for about 5 years and these prices are reasonable. If you look at the verizon unlimited everything plan on the post paid account the plan starts at $139.99 without all the fees. My sister has the plan her bill runs around $154.00, with the unlimited prepaid talk my bill runs around $160.00 I add about $6.00 per month for mobile web. That is not much of a difference. Your service reflects what you pay, and I enjoy the freedom of having quality service EVERYWHERE.
why am i being charged for calls when it tells me its unlimited and it has not been free on weekends yet ?
Is Verizon going to offer an unlimited talk/text option now that ATT has one? They may just let Page Plus be thier unofficial option
