UK carrier O2 to carry laptops starting February 27th

Starting on February 27th, UK carrier O2 is going to be launching three Samsung laptops in a joint venture with its Mobile Broadband and Home Broadband division. Dubbed the O2 Mini-Laptop, O2 Performance Laptop and the O2 Multi-Media Laptop, they are for all intents and purposes the Samsung NC10, R510 with Celeron Dual Core processor, and R510 with Pentium Dual Core processor respectively. All of the laptops come free on contract save for the Performance Laptop which requires a one-time payment of £78.29 ($116.18). All that is required is a contract and monthly tariff which starts off at £29.38 ($43.60) and ranges to £44.04 ($65.05) . All in all it seems like a pretty neat deal for both consumers and business users who have a need to take a computer on the road and who’d rather not get bogged down by the high, one-time purchase price of a new laptop. Plus when the contract is up you can get a shiny new laptop at no cost other than the tariffs. That is if one can stand the thought of being locked into a specific computer for mobile broadband. Hit the jump for the full computer specs and rate plans.

I’ve never heard of a concept like this. I think it’ll do pretty good! Well, like with everything, there are a couple of variables, but nonetheless is something that has a good chance of doing well.

Here in the US because of our Greedy Carriers we are likely to see this maybe in 11 years.

AT&T does this through radio shack on netbooks… Not from the carrier directly yet, but its ok David T, you can still hate on US carriers, your probably a verizon customer…
