Mozilla releases Fennec Firefox Mobile client to the masses

Ask, and ask, and ask….and ye shall receive. Mozilla has finally unleashed a functional “Milestone Release” version of its Fennec mobile Firefox browser. Available immediately for anyone with an HTC Touch Pro. The release version is limited in several ways, most notably without support for soft keyboards, automatic version updating, and plugins, but everything else should work more or less as promised. This is exciting news for anyone that has been eagerly anticipating Mozilla’s official move into the mobile space, and hopefully marks the beginning of significant product development for something that will hopefully do to Pocket Internet Explorer/Opera Mini what the desktop version of Firefox has done to its Internet Explorer equivalent, i.e. render it obsolete. Anyone interested in taking the release for a test drive should hit the Read link for access to the CAB file, though we definitely recommend making a complete backup of your handset before proceeding too eagerly.

Yawn..Let me know when its released on other OSs beside the crappy WM. I could take a dump on a plate and it would be better then WM.
I SHALL TRY IT!
All I get is black and white checker pattern.
This does nothing. Even on my homepage, which is nothing fancy, just some text, it just shows the black and white checkerboard of doom. Couldn’t get a single page to work.
Hopefully, this will see a S60 release.
What are the chances for a BB OS client?
wish they could make it for palm blazer replacement
Buggy and slow. 9 MB of lag, barely functioning.
Blackberry support please god I can’t take this browser anymore
I just tried this on my Sprint Touch Pro, Takes a while to load and then every page I try to visit just says “page load error”
BTW, I didn’t see any mention of this on the Mozilla Fennec page. Is this the official Mozilla release?
Im with this guy, I could think about taking a dump on a plate and it would be better than WM. Texas Instruments TI85 graphing calculator from 1994 has a better UI than WM………
@Andy and his boyfriend
It must upset you then to see all the great hardware running the OS, and all the most interesting software going there first.
winmo for the win!
Lol, Andy isn’t technical enough to use a WM device. Go back to your rosy Palm.
@Surur,
RIM and iPhone have surpassed it as far as marketshare goes. And iPhone is newer. Tell me how you consider a product that has been out forever and has fallen behind new competitors successful. It’s ugly, and most people think so with everyone trying to cover up the UI so it looks nothing like WinMo.
Don’t get me wrong, I like windows mobile and have been with it since my old cassiopia, but it is extremely outdated and looks last gen compared with the modern competition. BlackBerry UI looks outdated too, but what it does it does really well. And iPhone apps can’t be beat as far as interface goes and everyone seems to be developing apps for it like crazy including the big boys.

WTF? It dosen’t do anything. It is very slow to load and once it did all i see is an address bar and a checkerboard pattern.
@C Cox
In the US? Yes WinMo is losing market share. Worldwide? No way. Why else would SE, Palm and others continue to use it?
And as always, LOL @ people calling WM “crappy”. Usually it’s the people who don’t know what they’re doing who say such.
Andy, dont forget, WM outsold the iPhone over the Christmas season. You probably did not notice however because the story was not “interesting enough” for the iphone-loving blogosphere.
@Surur,
Not by much. One thing to note is Windows mobile is sold by all carriers across multiple devices at multiple price points. iPhone is sold by one carrier and is only one device. So for iphone to do as well as it did against them, relatively it did better. Apply iphone’s success to all carriers and it would have killed winmo.

@Cannon,
Worldwide is what counts. Marketshare is marketshare as they get revenue from all countries. Money is money in this global market so why limit to just the united states if it is sold globally. Does not make sense.

@Cannon,
And yes, I know what I’m doing in regards to winmo. I have had one ever since windows ce 2.11 on my casio e-105 brick PDA and owned a slew of devices ending with my AT
with my AT&T Tilt. Got cut off. LOL
Looks pretty crappy here too. To Mozilla- Opera 9 is the defacto standard on winmo that you need to beat.
same here man!
Will this work for the Treo 800w?
