More Sprint details: New Treo Pro target launch, Rumor 2, Instinct Mini, HTC Cedar and more

Ok Sprint people, you had some bad news yesterday as we learned the Treo Pro will not be launching on time this coming Sunday. It’s time to regroup and calm down because you know we wouldn’t just hit and run with bad news. Our ninjas came back with some new details that shed a bit of light on various goodies coming your way over the next few months, so let’s get right to it.
- Palm Treo Pro: The new target launch is March 15. We’re still not sure what exactly is behind the repeated delays but apparently Sprint still isn’t overly confident in the handset because the new launch date is still just a target, not firm. All our ninja had to say on the matter was that it didn’t pass Sprint’s standard testing process and as such, delay city.
- LG Rumor 2: Sprint is also targeting mid-March for the Rumor 2 which will be available in black and blue.
- LG LX370: This will be a mid-range feature phone with a slider form factor dropping in April/May.
- Samsung Instinct Mini: It looks like the rumors are true indeed. We’ve confirmed that Sprint is set to get its paws on a smaller, slimmer Instinct and it’s currently slated to launch on April 19. It will be an addition to the Instinct family rather than a replacement for the current model and it will be available in copper or graphite. Saucy. The bad news – EVDO Rev 0.
- HTC Cedar: First seen in the HTC roadmap leaked last month, the Cedar is a QWERTY candybar that isn’t exactly cutting edge in terms of design. All the same, Sprint bagged it and it’s set to drop in June.
As for the man of the hour, the Palm Pre, nothing new on that front we’re afraid. We’re still looking at a launch in the May/June time-frame.

@ “Informed”:
As much as I hate to confirm “backbeat”, that is a month old youtube from a six week old Alpha as used at CES. There is evidence of Beta yet on the Pre.
meant to write “no evidence of beta on Pre yet”
Why do all new article concerning the Treo Pro come back to the Pre? There are 4 phones mentioned here, all have thier own niche accept it for what it is.
Because the Pre is hyped. The probability is more Pro will sell in numbers and sales revenue than Pre until 2010.
@TT
‘Backbeat’ is referencing an alleged comment from an engadget writer who is supposedly an “expert”, mentioning alpha. I have yet to see any Palm official say the Pre is in alpha code. If the Pre is not in production how can Sprint launch it within the next 4 months? Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying the Pre will launch in the next few weeks to couple of months, I am making the point that some speculate too much. Those people are similar to the folks who said the Samsung Instinct will not launch until SEPT/OCT last year, it launched in July. The same was said about the Diamond, people were saying NOV/DEC, it launched in SEP.
I really do not think it matters how old the video!
^Nothing “alleged” about it, idiot. Recognizing this would require both a mentally-curious mind as well as dignity, integrity, -and- a spine. Your word is “expert”, while mine is “Engadget attorney/author who attended the private Palm screening to receive a first-person account where it was disclosed that the Pre being presented at CES was alpha”.

Get your shit together -before- you allege such bullshit again, moron. Clear?
Don’t like getting what you give? Tough.

@backbeat
First off, you are a very insecure person, who probably suffers from social anxiety disorder. That being said, show me ONE Palm official who says the Pre is in alpha code, NO-ONE other than Palm officials were allowed to test out the Pre, UI, etc. I have learned that writers tend to exaggerate, engadget writers in particular!
Before you start hurling insults you need to learn to comprehend what you read, here is the paragraph from engadget:
“Second, while we can sit here and play with an iPhone to figure out what exactly Apple’s trying to patent, we really don’t have much to go on with the Pre apart from some brief hands-on time with “UNITS” running alpha-level code at CES, so we can’t really make definitive calls one way or another. A lot can change between now and whenever the Pre is launched, so while we’re going to do our best to identify the elements of the Pre and the iPhone that could potentially infringe Apple or Palm patents, treat the Pre stuff with an extra dose of salt.”
Did you read it again and understand it?… The units engadget “briefly” saw MAY have been alpha, there is no mention from Palm whether there were alpha or beta units at CES.
@not-so-informed who ignorantly stated: “I have learned”
No! You haven’t. The record speaks for itself -regardless- of your innuendo and false-assumptions which cannot be proven.
No one is claiming Engadget is as pure as your jesus-carrier, but no attorney worth their salt would state that what Palm was presenting was ALPHA-code **unless** that is what had been shared with them by Palm … unless this same attorney is volunteering to be sued for -libel-.
It is simply laughable to believe otherwise, especially given the creaming-panty reception Engadget has written about this new toy.
How many attorneys have you employed in your pillaging of the world’s resources? … Thought so.
Got it, mental-midget?
@whackbeat
You are such an idiot, you try to come off as this intelligent know-it-all. Obviously you have no idea what “LIBEL” means. The Attorney would have to be the one who wrote a false publication that damages another person’s reputation, “slanderous statements.”
Try reading that engadget article again, the ‘patent’ attorney was asked questions about the “PATENT.” The attorney did not mention anything about alpha-code, it was the engadget writer. Your pathetic attempt at spin does not work with me
Clearly, you’ve never worked with an IP attorney as nothing original has ever been produced by your walnut-sized gray-matter. Otherwise, you would –not– be confusing defamation with libel with slander, Trolling-Moron.
I’m unconcerned what suits your panties, friend-o’bitchboy
Go fuck yourself [again], TwinkleToes.
Typical of someone deprived of intellect, they can’t back up their weak arguments and comments, so they hurl insults. It doesn’t bother me, I deal with idiots like you in my profession. We have med’s for folks with manic depressive illness. Don’t worry, I have empathy for folks like you, who have been neglected by their parents. It’s not your fault that you did not receive the proper growth and development as a child.
@bitchboy’s-bitch who said: “Typical of someone deprived of intellect, they can’t back up their weak arguments and comments, so they hurl insults.”
No reflective surfaces in your cave, mouth-breather?
Fuck you, cunt-stain.
I was able to try out the Palm Treo Pro today at a Sprint store.
DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert.
However, in my opinion, the Palm Treo Pro is a very fine phone. The product feels like a high-end piece of hardware; durable casing, fast processor, aesthetically pleasing, etc.
This is a professional looking phone that definetly bridges the gap between professional and casual use.
The Sprint rep says that he hasn’t had any problems with the phone and states that in his opinion the phone is definetly worth waiting for. He did not give any information as far as the reason for the launch date being delayed.
At this point, I am definetly inclined to wait for this phone. I was thinking of getting the HTC Touch Pro but in my opinion it has a cheap feel. I was told by another Sprint Rep that it would probably be 2-3 years before Sprint got the HTC Touch Pro2, which looks like a great phone that will run Windows Mobile/Phone 6.5. (I don’t know how true that is)
Just wanted to pass on this information and I hope that someone finds it useful.
^Really? What Sprint store location ’cause I’d like to check out the CDMA version too?
To get back on topic:
My store has had its working model returned. They had had one three weeks ago, and it was supposed to sell then, but they had to be sent back and launch slightly delayed from some problem HTC (the actual maker) had with MSWM recognizing the way they implemented memory fully.
Everyone has different needs. For people wanting a non-slider messaging form factor, windows mobile and a very powerful smartphone with all the features, I say to give this a look. It is not the latest of the Swiss Arny knife form factors or the latest announced but not delivered operating system, but it is the perfection of the the 700w, 700wx, 800w and now Pro line. The previous one, the 800w had ended up like the 700w, lots of problems and short lived.
* Nice bright screen with excellent resolution for its size
* Good ergonometic keyboard
* very fast
* excellent audio
* good size battery
* Wifi
* Expandable memory
* Autonomous GPS
I asked: When will it be for sale? The guy who had the Pro told me that they had been asked to take down the adverting, posters and video presentations two weeks ago and told to put them back up a couple of days ago. He said he will put a hold on one for me and to check back on the weekend if he didn’t call me first.
When it comes to Windows mobile 6.5, doubtless Sprint will have some HTC models with this at the end of 2009, but for the meantime the Treo Pro is excellent.
@Anon who said: “My store has had its working model returned.”
Really? Where?
Newark, NJ
on Market Street
^They claim they have no idea when it’s being released and have no phones or materials in-house (which confirms BGR’s and every other report). 973-824-6095 Nice “review” though.
@ Anon.
Please let me know if he does call you.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this phone.
Thanks!
^At least one claiming to be informed is employed there.
LOL, I called my store. They said they have none. So I stopped by this morning on my commute, they have had the working store sample returned to them for five days. There is one guy in the store who had it, he had to return it for some kind of update and now it is back. He said each store gets a working model a week before sale starts for one employee to use as the chief advocater. This time they had to send them back because of memory problem. He got his back and it has gone from 20MB free ram to 55MB at reset. Yeah! Says anyday for sales to start.
Neither the receptionist answering the phone or the assistant manager claimed to have even heard of it but he showed me right on the sales system ptr850hk stock number (no stock in store yet).
Don’t call, you get idiots. go into a big store. Thay have an advocaters model just returned to them with a software update.
Wow, here goes this asshole again. I second the motion that this sad bitter little man be banned. Backbeat, don’t you get the message that he doesn’t give a shit which is probably why has stopped responding. To all others besides backbeat: has this guy always been this way, what the fuck is his problem? It would be greatly appreciated if somebody posted a link to a single coherent comment he has ever made so I could stare at it in disbelief.
I’m sure the “Testers” are told to be as discreet as possible and would be reluctant to let a random caller know that they had a phone, that hasn’t been announced, available for review.
I am thankful to the Sprint Rep that allowed me to examine his phone. I loved it and would be so happy if I could purchase it this weekend. I read another post where the poster said it could be available on the 22nd.
I’ve got my fingers crossed.
Who will you be in your -next- post, kevin?
Oh … and fuck you, coward.
