BlackBerry Gemini 9300 information, specs

First there was “Pluto,” then were was “Magnum,” but now we’re talkin’ about something totally different — Gemini. What’s Gemini you ask? From what we’ve been told, the working model number is 9300, so that’s BlackBerry 9300. As you can imagine, the 9xxx line of BlackBerry devices is for 3G handsets and the Gemini won’t break that tradition. We’re told to think of this as the BlackBerry Curve “3G”. While we don’t have specifics on some of them, here’s a breakdown on what we know, and what specs we’ve got a hold of:

  • The screen will be larger than the BlackBerry 8900, and that will also include a higher resolution
  • The CPU will also be beefed up. We’re not sure if this means it will include something more powerful than the Bold’s 624MHz processor or not, but we’d like to think so.
  • The device is said to be silver (think BlackBerry 8830)
  • The keyboard is a little more rounded than the BlackBerry 8900
  • The Send/End keys are rounded instead of being flat on the sides
  • Styling is not drastically different — it keeps with the 8900/Storm styling
  • It of course rocks quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA
  • Wi-Fi and GPS was not confirmed, but we’d say there’s about a 99.99% chance
  • Camera specs were not confirmed as well, but you can bet you’re looking at 3.2 megapixels or better

Now, what about release date? We have absolutely nothing solid in terms of that. But, want our personal opinion? Q4 ‘09/Q1 ‘10. We really can’t see this one coming out anytime soon, it’s so far down the pipeline, they just released the current Curve replacement, etc. But it should let you guys know that RIM is obviously looking to transition all their devices to 3G (our opinion, not their words) over the course of the next year or so. Plus one of our only complaints about the 8900 was a lack of 3G, so bring it on!

Super duper shout out to our ninjas on this one!

Its more likely that sprint will get this one since sprint ursers have been looked over the most, but thats if the storm doesnt sell too well when they get it in aug/sept 09. T-mo obviously isnt getting it, cause they’re getting the 8900, AT&T will get it only if bold sales are dismal…….and they aren’t……..for the moment.

So when will the 3G, CDMA BlackBerry NIAGARA be released? Thought it was scheduled for Q1 or Q2(May) of ‘09.

    Does anyone know?

Well while we are on for hopes, I sure hope this is the BB headed for Nextel and Metro, iDEN and CMDA/AWS in one. If we are only so lucky…..

Cause hell, that’d be magic if they can make a GSM phone work on non-GSM networks!!!

This will hit VZW, as soon as they go 4g GSM in 2014…

It would take that long anyhow to get a new bb on VZW.

Love the network, hate the waiting…i just want the bold (niagra, or whatever the feck they call it)…

I prefer the keys on the Bold. The best keyboard I’ve ever typed on, with very few typo’s. :)

I’d still get it. Larger screen, 3G, higher resolution, better camera…all welcome additions.

What’s the “Magnum” supposed to have?

These black keyboards are total BALLZ to type on in low light fuQue the darthvader styling..! – bring back a silver/white key board model. At least you can see that 100% in low light or even total darkness…

For numbers? red lettering on black?

    Fart king stooopid!

    Back to hugging my 8900…

(But I will beef hooked if I can see the fart king numbers on it.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

Am I the only one that thinks Q4 ‘09 is ridiculously late to release a 3G Curve??

Unless they release this thing with some extra heat besides 3G I don’t see how this would entice me to purchase one Q4 at which point we’d probably see some real nice handsets.

If the Pre comes out before a CDMA Niagara or something Bold or Curve 8900-like for either VZW or Sprint then I’m done waiting on RIM and moving on with something else.

I want to see a touchscreen on this. That’s the only thing they’re missing on these phones. Forget the Storm… I want a Blackberry that looks just like the one pictured above, but with a touchscreen.

And forget the silver. The color shown above would be the perfect color.

How does this compare with the Bold???

Any hints as to which U.S. carrier(s) will get it? I’m sitting here getting more and more pissed off with T-Mobile given we’re coming up on a year since their 3G launch andd there’s still not a single peep from them on if/when they will have a 3G RIM device.

What is it with you people and saying it will come to Verizon or Sprint? Don’t you understand that GSM phones will not work on CDMA networks? I can’t believe how many people are fake internet experts claiming this will go to Verizon. Newsflash, it won’t work on their network. This has to go to either AT&T or T-Mobile. Just face it, RIM hates Sprint. Verizon gets some love, but Sprint (especially with their iDEN network) always get screwed. And with the way they’re hemorrhaging subscribers and cash, that trend won’t be reversed soon.
