BlackBerry Gemini 9300 information, specs

First there was “Pluto,” then were was “Magnum,” but now we’re talkin’ about something totally different — Gemini. What’s Gemini you ask? From what we’ve been told, the working model number is 9300, so that’s BlackBerry 9300. As you can imagine, the 9xxx line of BlackBerry devices is for 3G handsets and the Gemini won’t break that tradition. We’re told to think of this as the BlackBerry Curve “3G”. While we don’t have specifics on some of them, here’s a breakdown on what we know, and what specs we’ve got a hold of:
- The screen will be larger than the BlackBerry 8900, and that will also include a higher resolution
- The CPU will also be beefed up. We’re not sure if this means it will include something more powerful than the Bold’s 624MHz processor or not, but we’d like to think so.
- The device is said to be silver (think BlackBerry 8830)
- The keyboard is a little more rounded than the BlackBerry 8900
- The Send/End keys are rounded instead of being flat on the sides
- Styling is not drastically different — it keeps with the 8900/Storm styling
- It of course rocks quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA
- Wi-Fi and GPS was not confirmed, but we’d say there’s about a 99.99% chance
- Camera specs were not confirmed as well, but you can bet you’re looking at 3.2 megapixels or better
Now, what about release date? We have absolutely nothing solid in terms of that. But, want our personal opinion? Q4 ‘09/Q1 ‘10. We really can’t see this one coming out anytime soon, it’s so far down the pipeline, they just released the current Curve replacement, etc. But it should let you guys know that RIM is obviously looking to transition all their devices to 3G (our opinion, not their words) over the course of the next year or so. Plus one of our only complaints about the 8900 was a lack of 3G, so bring it on!
Super duper shout out to our ninjas on this one!

My bet this is the 3g BB for Tmobile.
I don’t know about you guys, but wouldn’t it be nice to see RIM finish a freakin OS before it starts releasing 5 new handsets? I mean the poor 8900, 9000 and 9500 users are still having glitches galore on these things!
This better be a T-Mo phone! I have to wait until July to be done my 2yr with T-Mo until I can get the 8900, so maybe I’ll wait and just pick this puppy up. Better come to T-Mo! No way I’m heading to AT&A or Verizorn.
Not sure why everyone is so upin arms about 3G – who cares… I have a non 3g curve and it does everything I need just fine… Dunno what all the hubbub is about…
“Smells like when this guy lands it’ll be VZW”
Umm….not likely since it would be impossible for it to work on VZW’s network.
They should bring it out now on CDMA for Verizon.
Beside using it with att there is no need for 850. I was hinting and hoping that this will hit tmobile us. Learn to take a joke
@howdaboutanos: I very much agree. Stop making. New phones and. Make my storm work as promised.
No cdma love bg? At&t and t-mobile have some nice devices coming their way this year.
This is pretty bleeping pointless. The new curve has been getting a lot more praise than the Bold for no good reason. And to think RIM is so out of ideas, it would take them a whole YEAR to just add 3G to a product and a few simple upgrades, and then call that sufficient for a new product for the year, is a little ridiculous. I didn’t give my money to apple on purpose, cuz that’s exactly what they did with the iPhone 3G.
I hope we get some real details on the next storm, which is the phone all of us should REALLY be caring about, especially one with a higher resolution/less feeble screen, less software bugs, better interface, and WiFi. I don’t know how people can get so excited about yet another blackberry that isn’t a touchscreen. Web browsing and multimedia are always going to pale in comparison on Berries when you have such a small screen to work with, no matter how nice looking that small screen actually is.
@Jawnj: I think Apex comes first, then Niagara, then Gemini–but I could be wrong.
BG, any info on a rumored Snapdragon BlackBerry with a slide-up touchscreen and QWERTY underneath (Xperia form-factor)??
@Norm and everyone else wanting this for VZW: Won’t “Niagara” be better than this?
I will just stick with my Bold
this would be sig if it’s tmobiles 3 berry
no way this lands on VZW…….you really think verizon would let a phone out with 3G, wifi, AND gps?? you clearly don’t know verizon that well haha
just in case you need an example: they inexplicably told BB not to put wifi in the storm
thats a bad photoshop job right there, black spots in both B’s tisk tisk
i think this will go to t-mobile for sure. its carrying UMTS! thats hot spot @ home! i cant wait!
So, what exactly is different than the Bold? I already have the 9000, and love it! But this Gemeni is definitely sexier, especially the keyboard. Is it plastic, or rubber? If rubber, holy eff!
Is there any significant hardware/software difference than hte Bold? Is it for GSM networks? Or CDMA? It would be a perfect in the VZW lineup, since its nearly identical to the bold, it seems.
@Ben
Verizon does not support UMTS/HSDPA at all. This device is for GSM carriers which are AT&T and T-mobile in US. Since AT&T has more 3G coverage area than T-mobile, most people would believe that 9300 is on it’s way to AT&T. My guess is that it will be released on both AT&T and T-mobile.
Too bad, verizon and Sprint customers are missing all these BB love…
Still using your old Curves, huh?
@Blackberry Bold some of us are still using our old 8830! Atleast verizon got the storm.
I have an 8300 and was going to go for the bold, any thoughts on whether it wis worth waiting for this?
thats nice, i guess
Ben,
It can’t land on VZW if it’s a GSM phone. VZW is cdma.
But I did wish it was going to go to VZW. I don’t want a Storm – I want a Bold ‘like’ phone with VZW
This looks like it may be for Verizon, does anyone know?
