Sprint Treo Pro not being released the 15th, new date TBD

We just got a hold of this internal Sprint newsflash stating that the Treo Pro, which we all assumed would launch on Sprint on the 15th, now meets the fate of a new “TBD” launch date. We’re not sure what’s up here, but the information is definitely legit — it’s a proven BGR ninja. We have reached out to Sprint and will update this post accordingly. We’re not sure there will be that many bummed out people, however. There’s something called the Palm Pre on the horizon… There’s a larger image after the jump.

UPDATE: Official statement from Sprint:

Sprint has not announced availability for the Treo Pro.  Sprint looks forward to welcoming this exciting, new device into our portfolio as soon as it has been approved through our customary testing process. We will share details on the correct availability date as soon as the standard testing of both the device and its interaction with our network has concluded. Thank you for your interest in Sprint products.”

    Best Buy Mobile Manager says:

There was a hardware recall on the phone. Best Buy Mobile received some stock already but had to send it back.

I am not sure what exactly the defect was, but apparently something big enough to severely delay the launch.

    Perhaps the fact that:

    >>> “…We’re not sure there will be that many
    >>> bummed out people, however. There’s
    >>> something called the Palm Pre on the horizon…

    has given Sprint pause.

Sprint building demand and hype over a phone, like AT&T did with the BB BOLD.

Unlike AT&T which gained and kept customers by doing this, Sprint is only gonna piss people off and send them away – as usual.

Oh well, I have no plans to move from my BB to a Palm. But Im curious to know, what update is out for the Curve 8350i. 4.6? 4.5?

Seriously? Treo Pro? It runs WinMo and it feels like a toy when you hold it. Just save up for the Pre people

Who cares. Does Sprint really think any is going to buy a WM POS when the Pre is just around the corner.

Who would get the Treo Pro on Sprint when A: They have the Touch Pro and Diamond on hand to fill whoever favors winmo, and B: the Pre (hot device may I add) is about to launch soon.

A lot of us are scratching out heads about Sprint’s wisdom in “carrying” the Treo Pro in its initial CDMA version. Period.

In conjunction with the introduction of the Pre, however, the itch worsens…

since when has any treo been a hot seller.. but i know lots of people who like a non slide qwerty keyboard with a touch screen… people will get it i mean the samsung i760, the lg incite, a phone doesent have to be a blockbuster to make a profit, look how people are goin gaga over the new bb with no 3g lol i wouldnt touch that thing.. imo a wm phone beats all others becuse what the os lacks in beatuy it doubles in functionality and power.. and after im done with it itll be just as fast and stable as anything else..

I cannot believe it. I already have the battery chargers and the extended life batteries for the Treo Pro so I can get off of my dying 700p.

The Pre is not an option as it will not run WinMo apps and that is what we have.

    This is crazy…

Better be super cheap, no one wants a high price tag when the Pre is coming.

Yes what on earth is Sprint doing carrying more than one operating system? I for one am dying to have my business, which depends on its smartphones, tryout a new operating system. After all what good is a business if you can’t use it to be part of a beta program?

All of us don’t live day to day on hype of the latest handsets.

Well, I must be one of the 5 people out there that would buy the Treo Pro…

I am a winmo user out of necessity. I love the palm form factor and keyboard (compared to a slider phone). I am still on the 700wx, but it is very long in tooth and I am ready to move.

I like the Pre, but I still haven’t seen any news about the ability to edit attachments (word, excel, etc.). For that matter, there are no reliable release dates as far as I know. I’ve heard anywhere from 3/15 to 6/15.

I am really surprised at how many people feel that everyone has to agree with their view on what is important in a phone…

I am anxiously awaiting the Palm Treo Pro.

I’m thiking that the phones were recalled so they could be loaded with windows Mobile 6.5???
That would be a nice payoff for all the delays.

I need a functional phone without all the “cute” tricks.

The Palm Pre will have Documents-to-go designed by DataViz. It will be able to view/edit Word, Excel, etc.

Palm needs to add DirectConnect to the Pre for a perfect device. DC when used by professionals [not the street corner kiddies] is a time and cost saver. USA coast to coast DC gives the instant contact when a SMS just won’t cut it.

Do NOT send back the Sprint Treo Pro. You and the people who got them have no problems. I have one and it is perfect. When an update to Rom comes then you bring it into BestBuy and they will give you one of the updated ones. BestBuy was not supposed to sell them so they have to replace it at anytime within one year.

It will not start on fire. Count yourself lucky for getting it.

I got two email from Sprint.
One on 2/9/09 and one on 2/10/09 that reiterates that the launch date for the Palm Treo Pro IS Feb. 15, 2009.

    I really hope so.

    I NEED to upgrade!
