Expansys spills the beans on the Nokia E75

Never mind the fact that they’re just doing it to get free publicity and a head start on pre-orders, we absolutely love it when retailers give it to the manufacturers in the junk and out the specs of their phones just days before they’re official. Expansys is no stranger to this process and has done it again with the Nokia E75. We’ve seen the E75 countless times before and while we want it for reasons we can’t really describe we’re now in a position to say that the E75 won’t suffice to stave off our hunger for the upcoming N97. Why? High cost, a tiny display and poor screen resolution will do the trick every time. If you’re an S60 nut however, chances are you’re going to love what the E75 has got:

  • Quad-band GSM / EDGE, dual-band HSDPA (900/2100) at 3.6Mbps
  • 2.4″ 240×320 QVGA display
  • 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus, digital zoom, LED flash
  • 30FPS QVGA video recording
  • aGPS
  • WiFi
  • FM radio
  • microSDHC
  • 3.5mm headset, Bluetooth 2.0, microUSB
  • Nokia Maps, PDF Document Viewer, ZIP File Manager
  • Dual home screen (work/personal)
  • 1000 mAh battery
  • 630 mins talk, 408 hrs stand-by time

So what’s all of this going to cost? Early estimates are that the E75 will ship on March 13 for £389.99 SIM-free ($580 USD) or free on select tariffs from T-Mobile UK. Fail.

Looks pretty cool. But once again, an astronomical price will ensure that they sell very few.

When the first pics were leaked…I was so excited. As with most handset leaked-to-available cycles, now I’m so disappointed.
I would love an explanation as to how UK carriers can offer this(and other expensive phones) free on contract and it is so expensive still on contract here in the states? Insert snyde comment how we help pay and subsidize the handsets here in the states…much like the costs of prescriptions here vs everywhere else in the world…but it’s too early on a Monday to get on that soapbox isn’t it?

No it’s not too early. Nokia has a weak relationship with the US carriers. To date, we’ve only seen three S60 handsets on this side of the pond through a carrier(AT&T, nonetheless): the Nokia 6650 Fold, N75 and E62. We’ll have to wait and see what the N97 holds and if it’s good enough to replace my N95. $580 would be much better spent on an E71 instead of this, IMO.

£389.99 SIM-free, wow thats cheap for all that goodness… Stop moaning about the price, what you want, something for nothing.

On a side note, the 1000mah battery will last 4hrs in a 3G area just like N82 no Doubt.

    @dan

The talk time states 630 mins, roughly 10 1/2 hours. It’ll go in for 2 days with heavy use (just like the e71)

P.S. – I agree with BG on this one. Fail! $580 for this phone? not worth it.

Too little too late……what a shame to come up with a screen which is non-touch and so tiny with such a big QWERTY……Nokia should have cancelled this ugly phone…..Still a Nokia fan(love the E71) but very dissapointed with this piece of SHYTE :)
