BlackBerry Storm drops to $99 on Amazon

The BlackBerry Storm is on a fire sale right now. First it was Verizon’s BOGO sale and now Amazon has jumped on the bandwagon, offering the Storm for a mere $99 with a 2-year contract. No need to buy two storms as this deal applies to a single Storm purchase and the price drop comes in the form of an instant discount which means there are no annoying rebate forms to fill out. Yippee! This deal does have its restrictions: You’ll need to sign up for a 2-year agreement and for the first 181 days you cannot lower your calling plan, switch the phone to a different line or fail to pay your bill. Most of those requirements are agreeable and not a big deal for someone buying the phone for themselves but those who switch out their phones on a regular basis or are looking to resell the Storm may be run into some problems as a result. If you fancy one Storm for $99 over Verizon’s 2 Storms for $199, head on over to Amazon’s website.

^Niagara is a replacement for the 8830, not the Storm.

Last available bit of info showed a May 09 arrival, but we should know more about that in 10 days from MWC.

Wow! Before you know it, they will be FREE, just like ATT did with the BB Curves.

^Verizon also has to meet sales benchmarks to maintain exclusivity on the Storm. I’m not sure this is a good sign for Verizon if they’re slashing prices after only <3 months since release.

In all honesty, it’s a horribly phone. It looks nice, it’s ground breaking, but as far as getting business done on it in a comfortale manner, throw it out the window. I’ve been happy with my Curve, and my iPhone, Tried this and hated both.

@EDF: You may want to tweak out some settings to make the transition much more smooth where input is concerned. Default settings are certainly not for everyone, but at least it’s not like having to -completely- overhaul the OS like on WinMo or Palm.

I have used every mobile device since the 957 – Treo – WM – iPhone to the latest BB models and each have their advantages. The Storm as it shipped – needed some major work. Each new OS (on Beta .99 now) has fixed some things and having used it exclusively for 2 months now I’m almost as fast typing as I was with the curve. The best BB at the moment is the Bold but Storm has some nice features and that big screen is very nice.

If this was iPhone @ $99 everyone would be screaming how apple will own .. unsure if this is just a sale or a new price point and if so it will force Apple, G1 to match.

Well something definitely is going on when Verizon offers a 2 for 1 sale and Amazon sells it off for a mere $99 bucks. It was selling terrifically and despite its issues, sales were still brisk. So are these incredible price slashes really necessary?

It’s clearly designed to move them out and fast . . . but for what reason? “Backbeat” could be right and it’s an effort to simply keep sales up. Then again, could something else also be on the verge of releasing? We’ll soon know!

Yea they discount it because of the economy and charge out the butt for the service. $49.99 plus $29.99 plus taxes and fees. Thats about $84.98 a month. They must be crazy to charge that. Plus they disable the wifi option. I know eveyone here hates Sprint and will say they suck and all that, but I will stick with my SERO plan.

Nice way to undercut Verizon on the price. If the storm didn’t use that stupid SurePress technology and used a regular capacitive onscreen virtual qwerty keyboard, this would probably be more appealing. iPhone and BlackBerry combined. What could have been…
