Sprint ETF-free cancellations extended through March 15

Sprint just refuses to shut that door… Customers still looking for a way out of their contracts without having to drop some serious cash on an Early Termination Fee (ETF) have been given yet another opportunity to do so. Last month we told you about an extension through the end of January due to another increase the company made to its administrative fee (increase from $0.75 to $0.99). We’re not sure what the reasoning behind this latest extension is, but we have indeed confirmed with Sprint that the ETF-free cancellation period has been extended yet again, this time through March 15. We also confirmed that the administrative fee has not been readjusted – it still sits at $0.99 – so this extension pertains to the initial fee increase we reported. If you’re enjoying your time with Sprint and the extremely competitive rates the carrier is offering right now, you should definitely sit tight as it prepares to release the Treo Pro and more importantly, the Pre. If you’re having issues that Sprint just can’t seem to resolve however, the door is still open.

As always, we recommend contacting Sprint customer care via chat as opposed to calling them:

Know your contractual rights and don’t allow Sprint to control the conversation. Show common courtesy but nothing beyond.

Your contract has a term of months/years attached to it. This is a fact.

Sprint breached your contract with the increase of this admin fee. This is a fact.

You continue to be negatively effected by this breach of contract for the time duration of your contract. This is a fact.

The law is on your side to cancel your contract, without being penalized with an ETF, at any point within the remainder of your -current- contract period. If you extend your contract by any means, you will have lost the right to cancel without ETF. These are facts.

Do not get into a conversation about “extending the period for which one can end their contract without an ETF”. Simply make your case to cancel -based on Sprint’s breach of contract based on the administrative fee increase- and enjoy a better wireless future.

    Truth’s a bitch -some- can’t deal with. ;)

yeah I tried this yesterday, i was on the chat for 3 freakin hrs when the lady told me that she verified with acct services that i can cancel service without paying the etf, but she said i needed to talk with them in person so she gave me a number to call. i called the number and of course the person who picked up said there was no way i could cancel bc it had been passed the 30 day bs. thankfuly i was still chatting with the lady online and she escalated the issue to operations management and told me that they would review the chat i had with her along with my records and call me back.

I have no idea what’s going to happen

Just wanted to let you know that it took me over an hour but it was worth it. I was out of the 32 day period but they cancelled it anyway. Be patient and persistent. They transferred me 3 times but it all worked out for the best. I am heading out to reward myself with a 3G Iphone, Good luck!

I used the Chat and the first person I spoke with said that I would be able to cancel my lines without ETF as long as I did it before the 26th of this month. I am looking to get an iphone and saw this as the perfect opportunity. I ordered up the refurb and found out that in order to port my number I will need to physically have the phone, which could take me up to a week to receive. I did the sprint chat again and talked to an account specialist and he said that he would give me a 1 week extension on the ETF free cancellation to allow me to port my number.

I almost feel bed leaving but sprint has really been a pain in the ass to deal with over the years. Constantly getting charged for services that I have asked to be removed from the account, sub par handsets, and customer service has not been that great either. Stack that up with area of town I have ever lived some how has absolutely terrible coverage. I literally have to walk out side to use my phone. Friends of mine that have VZW and ATT dont seem to have those types of issues.

I had never used that chat feature which seems like the way to go for the people who will be continue to use sprint as their carrier.

kept citing the terms and conditions on their website but couldnt provide me a copy of my original contract

i think the 3-15 date is a little rough to get,…im not sure how to work them to get it done

I’ve been chatting with them for over an hour, and I keep getting the run-around. They insist that there’s nothing that can be done to cancel without ETF since my 30-day grace period is over. I’m now on an “H2″ supervisor, who is setting a time for a manager to call me. Here’s to hoping that I’ll have more success with that. I’ve been sticking to the “breach of contract” lines… any other advice? Thanks!

I called sprint today and I was suppose to cancel by February 21st, which sucks since I am only four days late. They would not go around it, so I asked to talk to a supervisor and she still would not waive the etf, so any suggestions? I even told them both how we roam and drop calls in our own hours. Let me know anything to get out of paying $200 would be great.

    Thanks!

I chatted with someone online today and they told me my grace period was up by four days. I asked to talk to a supervisor and basically told her that I roam and drop calls at my house and they still would not waive the etf. Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks!

I called last night and talked with one lady and within 15 minutes I was out of my contract with fee waived and all. She did try to talk me into staying but you just got to be nice and presistant. I stuck with the point that since they are raising the admin rates that I finally had it and would like to end my service with them. Maybe I lucked out, but if you are serious it still can be done. I would recommend not using the online chat, it is easier for them to hide.

Sprint is claiming that you only have 30 days after you see the increase to get out of the ETF contract. The price increase went on all the bills in Jan so tech speaking the latest you can get it waved would be March 2nd if your bill came Jan 31st

Okay, I chatted and I called with no help at all. Finally I emailed dan@sprint.com. A rep called me and told me that it was actually March 15th. She then transferred me to retentions, and they told me that no way would they cancel without a ETF. I called back the number from the lady that called me, and spoke with them again. They apologized and cancelled my contract without ETF. Good Luck…BTW I love my new Iphone!!

The sum of these experiences with subscribers holding Sprint reasonably accountable for their lack of commitment to their side of their contract are reason enough to not do business with such a company who has no uniformity and no integration.

No company can “sell” its way out of such a paradigm. Where the ‘marriage’ between Palm and Sprint is concerned, there are clearly times when Divorce is the healthiest choice for both parties concerned.

    What is Past is Prologue.

I just tried to get out of my contract. The first lady said the extension was true but when i was transferred to the retention department, they said it was not true and also said I was past my 30 days. I also said that I don’t receive a paper bill and was not informed of the change. That still did not work. I will try again tomorrow and hopefully get a different agent.

I’ve been trying to cancel my contract today and Sprint is saying that there is no extension. I need to know is the 30days from the date of the change, or is it from when I, the customer, am notified of the change. And where can I find physical evidence if it is from when I am notified.
