T-Mobile makes the Samsung Memoir official

T-Mobile has announced that they are going to be carrying the Samsung Memoir this month. We could never have guessed… A pretty little thing, the Memoir’s main selling points are is its 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, 16x digital zoom and Xenon flash. A virtual full-QWERTY keypad and aGPS make up the other goodies this phone offers along with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. Now, the heart and soul of the Memoir is its camera and Samsung has made it easy for users to upload their pics to flickr, Kodak Gallery, Photobucket or Snapfish with the simple tap of the touchscreen. Thankfully this won’t be too much of a chore if you’re within T-Mobile’s funky 1700MHz 3G spectrum, but a lack of WiFi is going to make an awful lot of people sad considering that T-Mobile’s 3G network is currently as widespread as Eminem’s new album. Anyway, we’re quite excited to get some hands-on time with the Memoir — we love us some camera phones. Hit up the jump for a couple more pics and the press release.

I agree, I’m not to sure the iphone should be totally considered a smart phone. Sure, it is “smaarrrt” but each iphone user I’ve run into, and there have been a great many here in SD, CA, have nothing but games upon games loaded to their devices. Maybe they’re just not using them to their full capacity. Far from it i assume. It is a nice phone though, thats for sure. ^_^
Anyhow, this phone looks way sweet! But er, I’m stuck between this, waiting for the next Sidekick Blade thing, or the next Wing. The camera would be really awesome though. i guess ill just have to wait for some hands on action before i can decide, huh?
Good job with the new addition, T-mobile! Getting a great start to what will surely be a good year!
Eminem released a new album?
The iPhone is a semi-smart phone.
No file system kind of makes it just a phone that can run applications.
To the person talking about AT&T’s lack of coverage I laugh at you. T-Mobile doesn’t even have ROAMING agreements here. T-Mobile is SO far behind in coverage it’s not even funny.
They do have good devices though.
If this thing is as locked down as the Behold, it will be another failure since lots of people will not pay the $25 data plan for this phone.
lol how was this supposed to be considered an iPhone competitor ? I bet when Steve Jobs saw this on his morning paper, he probably LOL’d and turned to the next page.
@ Mike:
I don’t think Jobsy is doing much laughing at anything lately. Maybe if he doesn’t die, he can start laughing again. Or maybe if he does die, others will start laughing.
But you are right…not to be considered iPhone competition
I had at&t for 6 months here in cleveland with the i phone. More bars in more places my ass! I dropped calls all the time! Paid the etf and sold my i phone on ebay and went to T-mobile. In 10 months i literally have dropped maybe 3 calls. In my experience T-mobile is far better than at&t! And the i phone used to freeze up all the time
yea i agree with david above me i been tru da same things he went tru with at&t. t-mobile is waay better
iPhone now has over 10,000 applications that a smartphone my friend. In the early days when they were doing only internet apps I saw your point, but now they took it to another level in such a short period of time!
Swap to t-mobile..the high speed network is much better..if you live in a big city..the voice network quality wont make any difference..Only the data network differs and from a technical side t-mobile has the latest techno..They have HSDPA everywhere as opposed to other carriers..Just google it and you’ll see what it means..and hey I have worked for AT&T before…so i know what I am saying..
Somebody should have told Bill Ogle that those Samsung cameras SUCK. No wonder they are putting them in phones…Samsung couldn’t sell them anywhere else(maybe Bill really does know they suck). And shame on you T-mobile…no wi-fi?
touchwiz = fail
This looks like a great phone. It will be interesting to see the interface and how it measures up to the Omnia, bold and IPhone?
iphone isn’t a smartphone? WTF, are you stupid? It can take and run apps for various purposes. You can receive and write emails in addition to playing media files. It’s basically a pocket computer. Aside from the lack of a decent camera, its limits are defined by the the applications available. It does everything a smartphone, or PDA, can and more. What about it isn’t a smartphone??
I don’t even own or want one and even I know it’s a smartphone.
I am, personally, not a Samsung fan, at all. I hate their camera’s and their phones typically have a failure-based technical inside. Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing what this phone has to offer.
It definitely is an impressive camera phone I wandering 2 things, 1. If the browser can be unlocked like the behold can and also if there’s a facebook mobile app for it.
All i can say is it is selling quickly here. sold out at the mall.. sold out at the store. i asked around and not many returns that must say something? doesn’t it. i don’t think tmobile wanted the phone to beat the iphone. i don’t think that was the purpose. i believe they were trying to find something else to be better at like camera phones. they just happened to put the touch screen on it. i would never compare it to the I phone because it is not a smart phone and is not even informed at tmobile as such. no competition. it is in a different relm…k
