Sprint enables MMS for BlackBerry with OS 4.5 release
Fresh off the heels of its release of OS 4.5.0.131 for the Curve 8330 and Pearl 8130, Sprint users have been hammering our inbox with reports that Sprint has finally enabled the BlackBerry users running OS 4.5 to send and receive MMS. It’s long been rumored that Sprint would enable MMS alongside the official release of OS 4.5 on its network and many people have recently been reporting that Sprint reps were dropping some major hints that a new OS was just around the corner. Think it’s too good to be true? Well then why not try it out for yourself. Hit up the read link to grab OS 4.5.0.131, load it up and then resend your service books. Believe it or not, you’ll be all set to begin firinf off some MMS to your non-smartphone using pals.
Thanks, Sarge!

Took them long enough…
This is one less thing to complain about
tried loading this sucker last night and had too many errors. had sprint tech support on the line for 1 hour and they didnt even know about this upgrade. so i will wait. What the hell is rim doing these days.
What’s up wih carriers blocking mms, iphone and now sprint.
Sprint didn’t block it, Apple didn’t either for that matter, they (Sprint) just didn’t make it functional on smartphones til recently. Apple will probably upgrade it or make it possible on the next gen
Please note there is no update for the 8830 WE, and no MMS even if you have an unofficial version of 4.5 OS. So much for buying the “flagship” Blackberry from Sprint.
Sprint uses a service they license from Verisign called Picture Mail, this was their answer to MMS the way the rest of the world has it.
The best I can gather from what I have been told is that RIM and Sprint were going back and forth on MMS being able to communicate with the Picture Mail service which is what took this update so long to release.
There are still a lot of people having issues such as not being able to send MMS. Others are stating when we get an MMS we get the Picture Mail link same as always to view the image, but I heard of one person getting the image AND link like one of the admins on the Buzzaboutwireless.com forums told us it would work when we finally got it.
A late phone call last night to Sprint support told me that there were some data outages which were preventing people from sending MMS, but many still can’t.
Any love for the good old 8703e boys still suffering with 4.2.119(201) ?
FUN FUN FUN.
Gotta love conflicting information.
Just hung up the phone again with Sprint BB technical support and was told this time a NEW reason for not being able to MMS.
This gentleman told me that the reason some can send and some cannot……it is not updated in Sprint’s network and will be fully available to everyone with 4.5 tomorrow. Basically they are saying that RIM “leaked” this version and it wasn’t supposed to be out until tomorrow.
He also said that when we get an MMS now, it will be a straight MMS and nothing at all to do with Picture Mail as far as getting or sending. Which is in direct contrast to what we have been told all along, but is this a shock to anyone?
Take that however you wish, I am thinking no one knows what is going on.
MMS, that almost makes up for Sprint getting these without WIFI….
I resent the service books on mine, got the mms option now…sent myself a picture message, recieved a link for picture mail to view the pic…i guess its better then nothing
In order for MMS to work you MUST have 4.5 on you BB. If you’re not sure how to update you’re BB to 4.5 head over to Crackberry.com for instructions, or simply read through the support docs on Blackberry.com.
RIM did jump the gun on the release which is why it caught Sprint off guard. One of the primary reasons for the delay in 4.5 was an issue with the speakerphone coming on when answering a call. Sprint’s release of 4.5 doesn’t do this.
Ok guys so is this an official sprint release or a leak. How do i get it etc……
According to Sprint is is Officially Unofficially Official.
I have heard of more than one CS rep telling you that RIM put it out, but Sprint isn’t Officially putting it out until tomorrow when they update their website to reflect it being available.
Also as I posted above someone I spoke with this morning told me I couldn’t send an MMS because everything isn’t up to date in Sprint’s system which makes me think they are trying to pass the buck on RIM saying that they put it out but Sprint didn’t want them to yet.
Hey good news for all those I’ve had the mms forever I don’t use it that much prefare emailing.
Sent via BlackBerry
So its not official? I checked the site its not there. Here we go again sprint……
It isn’t officially on the Sprint website, but if you go to RIM’s website and go through the Sprint section it is there for download.
So what negative impact could i possible have by downloading it through rim?
None that I know of, it is supposedly the exact same version but Sprint isn’t updating their website with the download until later today or tomorrow according to the mods on buzzaboutwireless.com
Also it seems the MMS is hit or miss, some have it working fine some don’t and cannot get a clear answer on what will happen when we get an MMS, one person said they got an MMS, some say they get a Picture Mail link like normal and one person said they got an MMS AND the Picture Mail link.
No one is using a version from Sprint, everyone installed the version off the RIM website, so no common thread there as to why MMS is hit or miss.
SPRINT??? MMS???? WHAT???
Here is something that you MAY want to know before upgrading to the 4.5 release..
YOU GAIN MMS YOU LOSE “ROAM ONLY” OPTION!
Sorry! For me and Sprint, having ROAM ONLY for the times Im at work in the basement are important more then MMS. I know for a lot of people living in fringe areas it is as well.
*its also good to over roam and get out of your contract*
can anyone post the link?
Poor 8830 just being ignored. I wonder if a new blackberry or os 4.5 for the 8830 will be released first.
@RogerA: The loss of Roam-Only is not a matter of the 4.5 OS. It’s a matter of the hardcoding into that particular US-version of the Curve, just as all US-versions of new Blackberrys suffer from the same limitation. There has been alot of discussion on this on the GSM side.

hope this helps guys. its there from what i can see. Issue now is, wait for sprint or go ahead and download it.
