If you’re getting “data connection refused”, that’s a carrier issue as you’re not even getting a connection to their data network. Lowercase “edge” either is a provisioning issue, or there’s a problem with the carrier’s gateway to infrastructure.

Neither one of these would just affect BES.

Sucks for you BB users! I swear, everytime RIM’s servers go down you see irate BB users on the news sounding off. Hell, you’d think the stock market crashed all over again. Quite humorous, if you ask me. What’s even funnier are the BB users who like to bash Windows Mobile but the WinMo folks’ Exchange servers are more than likely up and running right now and they’re downloading their e-mails and what not while laughing at you BB heads. LMAO! I’m crying invisible tears for you people…

The fact is there are multiple points of failure for the BlackBerry bes users. I work and support these infrastructures every day. This last sunday was the start of this BES issue, then Monday comes and about 6 of our clients that have no affiliation with each have bes issues. Mspush not affected, GOODLINK not affected. Your telling me that GOOD or MS rely on the same resources that BlackBerries do? DO your homework, the BlackBerry may be ultra safe, but doesnt make a world of difference when it doesnt work. They are simple to use and predictable at best. Which is the only thing they have going for them right now…

As a BES Admin, I have noticed no problems in the Baltimore/DC area en masse. I have had a few users have their phones mysteriously stop responding, but a delete/re-add to the server took care of things.

Jack Tee, you know whats funny, my reply to your post actually needed something else in it. You speak of “support” of the device and sounds like you may be referring to “service” rather than support, funny thing is the Blackberry is the only one that WOULD need “support” in that sense after the purchase from the manufacturer…WM’s/Palm’s etc only need “support” from the wireless carrier (phone, data etc). Add another point of failure I suppose? (RIM every going under…doubt it severely but what would all the crackheads out there do if they did?).

I guess I’m unclear as to what this has to do with anything in this thread relating to a BB outage? When I pick a handset to use I don’t give a rats butt about how well it’s marketed or how well the company is doing, I care how well it WORKS.

I’m in no way going to try to say that WM is dead reliable or anything, it DEFINETELY has issues; no doubt. But I’m an EXTREMELY heavy business user with a strong decades long tech background (but I’ll give you this, it was MS Tech, Systems Admin, Exchange, SQL, workstations etc) and I’ve tried BB’s, I’ve tried Palms both Palm OS and WM, I’ve tried other smartphone devices (WM) and reliability issues aside there is no other smartphone platform as CAPABLE as WM…I can sync individual mailbox folders if I want, move items throughout my entire exchange mailbox, calendar, contacts etc seemlessly sync to my mailbox; just overall for exchange connectivity (and for me this is the SOLE reason for having a smartphone) WM is massively superior to all other platforms out there and Palm’s implementation of WM is about the best implementation I’ve ever experienced (ironic they did the best with it IMHO).

From what I have seen/heard etc the iPhone isn’t too shabby in it’s connectivity with exchange but I have no use for a music/entertainment focused device, plus AT&T stinks where I live, so…

…because it’s a blackberry first then a phone second. Blackberry’s at first we’re only email and wap devices. They didn’t have phone features until the 6200 series and no dedicated send/end keys till the 7100 series.

I never call my blackberry a “phone”, that’s disrespectful

I was down from late AM yesterday to about 7PM last night. All is back up and well now. Pretty much my whole backlog of e-mails(64) hit my Storm one after the other last night. Annoying yes……..but I’m glad the system is back up and working.

Comparing anything about Blackberry/Rim to anything having to do with Palm/Treo etc is even more absurd than the 1000 points of light absurdity. I think Palm sold a total of 17 devices in 2008. Their future relies 100% on 1 new product, the Pre. Apple will release a new iphone immediately after the Pre and it will have whatever features needed to make buyers quickly forget the Pre and bury Palm once and for all.

Two Points of failure is better than three and this freaking posting on BGR is PROOF of my point. You never hear “Treo/Touch [whatever besides BB] users are experiencing a data[/email] outage” – It just doesn’t happen. A FEW smartphone users using the same email server/provider could experience an outage sure. A wireless provider could have a data outage effecting ALL smartphones, dumbphones internet connection sure…but ONLY BLACKBERRY could experience a Blackberry service outage.

Man it was horrible because two of the blackberries were fine into logging to bis. then my own personal bb, gain access last night but kept resending the same message over and over. Now the bold and 8900 are just dead. I have no clue but I’m holding on for dear comfort.

And ill rather have a bb over any iphone and windows mocrap!

Ever since I got the Storm I’ve had nothing but problems. I believed Verizon’s BS advertising (the UI on this thing is slow as crap) and I do not like the click screen. Now I haven’t been able to use BES since Sunday night.

RIM/Blackberry is so far ahead of everyone when it comes to messaging reliability. The iPhone, while a fantastic device, has a long, long way to go in the messaging area. Any iphone user will tell you about the spinning wheel and “sending” bar and what one believed to be a sent message winding up in the outbox. A bi-annual RIM outage is a tiny price to pay for the overall productivity their devices afford.

But when someone uses A blackberry there are possible multiple points of failure. If my data connection with Sprint stops working I dont need to worry about an outside company trying to fix it. I still dont understand why RIM is the single point for all the mail going through. Why can’t they setup servers inside AT&T, VZW, Sprint etc rather than hosting it all themselves?
