Latest Xbox 360 update killing audio via HDMI?
It looks like Sony isn’t the only company with woes on the gaming console front these days. Sure, Xbox 360 owners might not be forced to sit back and watch as their console manufacturer of choice posts record losses and sees gaming labs begin to snub their platform, but what difference does it make if their consoles becomes unusable? In an Xbox Forums thread currently spanning 23 pages, hundreds of Xbox 360 owners are reporting that recent updates are causing big problems. In a system that currently sits at the forefront of HD gaming, HDMI connectivity is a must. Users are reporting that after installing the Xbox Live Fall Update however, audio has been completely compromised via HDMI. Some users are even reporting video issues as well. Months have passed since the issues first arose and yet countless gamers still find themselves without a solution. Calls to Xbox support have yielded nothing to date – in fact some reps are still trying to blame faulty TVs and cables for the issue. Talk to us Microsoft, what’s up?
Thanks, Jacob!

Another microsoft update that gives compatability issues ? ( do I even need to say Vista) lol.
Actually, it’s ironic that I would say that because I do have Vista on 4 of my rigs at home and have had little issues with them, at least not anything I couldn’t fix.
Although this DOES suck, I don’t use HDMI on mine, I just use the HD cables lol.

I have two Xbox 360s, both with the NXE update and using HDMI — no problems here. Sounds like perhaps it could be cheap cables, bad TV connections or something else.
i know the weekends are so, but is it really slow enough to report on an issue thats been known since late november?
Thats even more reason to post about it, Microsoft has known about it since November and there has not been a fix yet!
also, if memory serves me right, microsoft has confirmed the issue & is working on it. search xbox.joystiq.com for all of the related posts.
Ha! I only use HD cables as well. Die ps3 and give xbox gran turismo.
no issues here with hdmi audio
I haven’t run thw update yet, but I use the HD cables rather than HDMI, so I should be cool hopefully.
This particular story is 3 months old. May I ask why its being reported on now?
I have this problem. I am using the HDMI cable that came with my XBOX. Perhaps it is with the Elite systems? I am using the component cables now but the audio was very distorted when I used HDMI.
The weired thing is, my xbox worked just fine after the NXE but within the last 2 weeks I have started having audio issues over HDMI.
True, but this problem is old since like November and M$ has already been trying to find a solution to it.
Perhaps, with all the different variations of the Xbox 360 out there, some of the components are not compatible with certain TV sets or just incompatible with the NXE firmware update.
This is strange its the first Ive heard of this problem. I to am using HDMI and I have no problems with voice or video. So not sure what the problem is. To me it seems it could be the TV, the 360, or bad cables.
I’ve been using HDMI for a long time now. I also am a complete gaming addict. At least 3 hours a day and such. Never had ANY audio issues. Except when I knocked my center speakers over which pulled the wires out. Damned you for that Microsoft!!!
Even with an issue all about the 360, it’s still necessary to smack around Sony and PS3. Great job, BGR!
I bought my 360 in September, so I had the newly released 60gig 360. I bought a $32 HDMI cable at walmart and I haven’t had a single problem.
Rip on the PS3 all ya want but I’ve not had one problem out of it. Before the PS3 came out I went thru 3 of those quality piece of f*ck 360s.. Spend the money and get a real console.. Or just keep hatin cause you can’t afford one.
Lol@Akers
First it was i Phone BlackBerry banging, now we’re gaming console banging?
Ha are we running out of quality topics to argue about?
No issues with HDMI, had my Xbox 360 since Nov 08.
I haven’t had any trouble since updating. I bought an Elite system when they first launched.

God, you guys are stupid (the ones commenting).
Can you read a bit and see the problem is not an “old 360″, a bad cable or another stupid reason like that?
The reason is Microsoft fucked up with the HDMI specification and some TV sets won’t get audio through it. This includes some new Bravias and some monitors like BenQ.
I have had zero problems with my 360 Elite since I bought it a year and a half ago…. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
I wish Apple would mac a gaming console. Just to have another player in the market
@ Storm Shadow.
haha I wanna see Apple getting into the Gaming Console market.
