Motorola Inferno now called Torch, hardware trials begin next week

So it begins! If you’re a BGR reader, you already know that 2009 is going to be the year of the Moto for Verizon Wireless. There are already seven new handsets that we know about coming to Big Red this year and it looks like things are all set for the show to start. We have word from our ninja that the first in line for Verizon might just be the Inferno, now codenamed Torch. Also referred to by some as the Blaze 2 or Krave 2, this puppy is basically Krave ZN4 sequel and Verizon is set to begin hardware trials next week. Word is it might have undergone a few styling changes since the renders above were created – namely the plastic flip may have gone the way of the dinosaur, sorry Star Trek communicator fans – but it should be a nice upgrade. Specs are still scarce but sit tight and we should have something for you soon enough. No, the Torch might not be at the top of your must-have list from the flurry of handsets we scooped back in December but hey, it’s a start.

It’s slow, it’s crappy, and Motorola wanted to put transition elements in the phone on a weak processor. it has a horrible UI that motorola wanted instead of the default Verizon one like the dare had. and they did it all with the flair of a dead lizard….just stop making these things, or make them better.

    Dear motorola,
get a clue, make it simple, and fast, and people will use it.

    Signed,
The guy who pulled your device from all of his stores

If you kill the flip lid, what’s unique about the phone? The fact that the buttons are at the top rather than at the bottom?

I liked the concept of the flip lid, since really flip phones tend to feel more natural than candybar phones when talking on them, since they can curve around your head…

I ONLY buy clamshell phones. Take note, manufacturers. I’m not the only consumer who’s got caught out making phone calls to random people or destroyed my display because the phone was in my pocket with some other items (like keys and coins).

Gay men who put their mobiles in their handbag like a woman probably don’t appreciate the clamshell.

I take care not to put my phone (candybar) in my pockets unless there is nothing else in there. Its quite easy once you make a habit of it. Clamshell looks very girlish to me…

I am waiting for the Krave 2 / oerch /Inferno or what ever they want to call it… I would hope these trials would not take forever as my contract is coming up for renewal and the ZN4 has known software issues, so I do not want to get stuck with the Krave ZN4.

    Call it Krave ZN5.
No need to change the flip cover.

Increase the volume on calls. Improve the camera and editing features. i.e. the LG Dare.
