Pre team not just aiming for iPhone, jabs N95 as well

Plenty of time has passed since the Palm’s Pre announcement at CES earlier this month but we still don’t mind when new coverage pops up – especially if HD videos are involved. In this interview with Palm’s VP of Design Peter Skillman, we also get to see Palm address the Nokia N95 in relation to the Pre for the first time. Skillman is very tactful in his criticism of the N95 8GB Serko hands him and describes the industrial design of the Nokia handset as having “a lot of topological complexity” compared to the sleek minimal design of the Pre. Allow us to translate if we may: N95, old and busted. Pre, new hotness. In all seriousness though, we still love the N95 8GB we have laying around somewhere, or ‘Black Betty’ as we call her, but Skillman’s assessment is mild. Symbian fans should just be thankful he didn’t get into the meat of things and compare the handsets on an OS level. Hit the jump for the full video.

This phone is picking up more and more traction, I hope by March a more solid date for launch is here. My BM thinks the berry Centro is cute and interested in the Pre too, her upgrade is 3/09

    @ NickyHilton –

10 more days? I ordered mine last Friday and had it up and running this Tuesday! Yes, it is awesome. I called T-Mo and convinced them to hook me up; the lady on the line had to dig for a minute, but said, “yup, there it is” and proceeded to give me the upgrade. It is badass. Pre? No, thank you, I’ll stick with the ‘Berrys…

I love all the zoom zooms and wham whams that come with Sprint’s plans and how all phones play nice without any added fees, you don’t have to worry about being somewhere that does’t have at least 2.5G

BM wants a berry Centro, she’s eligible 3/09, saw the Pre and wants that too. I’ll burn a rebate to get it for her just don’t want to pay full price for either

And.. unlike the blackberries with full qwerty.. you get a screen with the letters that correspond to the key so you can dial numbers that are created by words. Tisk.

And it looked snappy to me. Quite. Hopefully they garner some market share from RIM and force RIM to consider this feature called THREADED MESSAGING!!! hediots.

Seriously, that looks like a very nice phone. I hope for one, Palm doesnt let Apple ruin the phone with a lawsuit and second that it comes to Att! I’ll NEVER go back to Sprint.

Decisions, decisions, will this entice me to my 1st Palm for me? So far the the only drawback is no expandable memory but will get over it because I never maxed any of the others w/less mem

“The phone looks awesome, but you will only get frustrated when you are trying new apps and putting music on it, only to realize you are constantly running out of space. Not to mention possible stability issues when you have no memory left.”

    Dude, you’re on an iPhone.

Wow, I know the iPhone is the first thing that people think of with regards to the Pre, but it looks like they’ve studied Android as well, some of those features are very reminiscent of my experience on my G1

for the record, I have both a G1 and a 1st Gen iPod Touch..

My only gripe with the Pre, or did I miss something – No WiFi???

    Informed says:

Why do some people keep saying, “too bad it’s on Sprint or, the only drawback is Sprint?” I will admit that Sprint had issues with customer service, I had an issue years ago. All indications are Sprints customer service is much-much better. Aside from that, Sprint has the best voice/Data plans around and the best broadband network.

I like the look of the Pre.

I think Palm did say other phones are on their way with the WebOS. I’m just afraid the battery life will be non-existent because it’s always connected and pulling things from the web. I hope the OS doesn’t take up too much power.
