Pre team not just aiming for iPhone, jabs N95 as well
Plenty of time has passed since the Palm’s Pre announcement at CES earlier this month but we still don’t mind when new coverage pops up – especially if HD videos are involved. In this interview with Palm’s VP of Design Peter Skillman, we also get to see Palm address the Nokia N95 in relation to the Pre for the first time. Skillman is very tactful in his criticism of the N95 8GB Serko hands him and describes the industrial design of the Nokia handset as having “a lot of topological complexity” compared to the sleek minimal design of the Pre. Allow us to translate if we may: N95, old and busted. Pre, new hotness. In all seriousness though, we still love the N95 8GB we have laying around somewhere, or ‘Black Betty’ as we call her, but Skillman’s assessment is mild. Symbian fans should just be thankful he didn’t get into the meat of things and compare the handsets on an OS level. Hit the jump for the full video.

that is OFFICIALLY the most BADASS phone, SNAPPY, BEAUTIFUL, I have EVER seen.
Sup.. FIRST!
Oh… bring me one on Tmo 3g please. Dont you guys need all the rev you can get?
Seriously, Palm? Reaching back 2 years and making the bold attempt at reaching the standards of the N95?
Talking up GECKO-feet and dialpad-within-the-QWERTY? Seriously, Palm?
This Pre requires the same TWO-handed controls to navigate that WinMo requires (for those actually paying attention to the video).
Seriously, Palm?
Looks very nice but this is not the first phone to have the dialpad built into the keyboard, my sidekick has had that forever.
seriously, backbeat?
Did anyone mention he fake message brought up with finger presses yet?
He’s referring to Palm having the dial pad built in to the keyboard with the Treo series when it first came out.
umm, he didnt say this phone is the first to have it. he said palm was the first to do it.
What’s this thing about typing “first” when you are the first to comment?
Leave that for the tween blogs who give a crap
……back to the topic
How does the Pre compare to the Blackberry Bold?
isn’t this the first phone to have inductive charging and syncing built in?
Damn, looking pretty sweet palmn.
Looks nice! Only drawback: Sprint.
This thing has no external storage. What’s the point of touting a full featured music purchasing app if you will only be able to store a few songs? If this thing had 8 gigs or more it would be worth while. The phone looks awesome, but you will only get frustrated when you are trying new apps and putting music on it, only to realize you are constantly running out of space. Not to mention possible stability issues when you have no memory left.

@Chris,
Actually they were the first. Treos have been out far longer than your sidekick has even been a memory in the minds of teeny bop school kids.

i believe it does have 8gig storage as listed on phone arena
It has 8G of storage? You happy
that phone looks SICK!!
I just can’t wait until the time comes where you can get any phone on any network. I would definitely get this.
@ Christopher
Go read the specs; it has 8GB, same as the iPhone.
Why do they keep showing the charger dock when it doesnt come with the phone!
did any one notice at the front of the video, how he unlocked the screen….knocking the ball out the circle. like when have to press the center key to unlock the phone on treos
It’s a cool piece of hardware. From other demos I’ve seen, the transition between applications is slow, and basic stuff (video, more email than gmail, MMS) “will be announced”.
I’d like to replace my VZW blackberry with it, but I wonder if this thing is a year from really being useful.
Uh, so where do I go now in order to watch the video?
The above video says that it is no longer available.
Did anyone hear @ :55 he mentions a door for a micro sd card? I thought there were no capability for external storage.
jason – Try again, it’s still working fine for me.
@ken: That was a door for micro-usb.
