Helio Ocean 2 has been spotted and will be released February 12!
After one long year of waiting in agony, excitement, disappointment, despair and lastly hope, it looks like the Helio Ocean 2 has finally materialized and it appears to be a sure thing now. The packaging looks very similar to the first Ocean, though it is now just called Ocean 2 given the Virgin Mobile acquisition of Helio. There’s no mistaking this for anything else as it looks very much like the original and exactly like all the leaked images from a few months back. Word seems to be pretty solid that this is coming on February 12, so we’re just days away from salvation. The second generation Ocean has an upgraded version of the Ultimate Inbox which now threads SMS messages and has Google Talk included. The browser now supports full HTML and with 2GB of internal storage, you won’t be aching for memory as often as you did with the first Ocean. Hit the read link for a full unboxing treatment.
Too little, too late Helio. I’m not wow’ed by this at all, I bet it’s the same phone anyway, what a disappointment.

Who Cares? If your thinking about buying this go buy an HTC Touch Pro.
Really? Seems like a waste of time and money for a dying company to release the same phone that has been out for years.
I’m just wondering if anyone really cares about phones like this anymore. IME, the market seems to be experiencing a massive shift toward smartphones, especially since the line between high-end feature phone and smartphone becomes increasingly blurred.

It’s actually orange, not red lol. This color scheme is a “Limited Edition”, later this year, Helio is set to release different colors.
I still think it’s pretty stupid that they release a limited edition color at release.. that’s usually something you do later down the line or release it different color options at the same time.
I’d get Helio but, the stupid thing about them is that a lot of their exclusive apps are heavily relient on you having friends who are also Helio subscribers, and honestly how many people can you name that even have Helio ?
Their exclusive apps are otherwise great ideas that, if implemented onto another carrier would be really awesome, like Buddy Beacon, etc.
well the limited addition release is to gain as much consumers as possible… usually companies use “limited additions” schemes to resell something that is the same thing but want to make extra money before making something brand new. (getting rid of old inventory)
i just got the helio ocean and its not as great as i thought it would be… yes you can download better games on the phone cuz you have access to other countires game/music library but its too chunky… you really need to cut down on size… i feel my pockets dragging down my pants every time in put it in my pocket…
The phone is “red” could virgin mobile possibly be releasing this prepaid. or is this a way to incorporate helio into virgin mobile indefinatly??
Too bad I don’t think the Ocean 2 will be able to compete with other phones like the Bold, G1, iPhone, and the new Pre.
I sure totally hope this thing is prepaid! Us kiddles under 18 have long-awaited an actual COOL prepaid phone!! =)
