1. Cut/Paste
2. Landscape mode keyboard (for all apps)
3. Multiple email signatures
4. The ability to attach more than one file/photo to an email
5. Flash

Other than the above, iPhone 3G is an awesome product — give me the above and I’ll be one happy camper (oh yeah, the AT&T thing also sucks, but I bought mine from Apple in Hong Kong — legally unlocked and no carrier contract — a higher purchase price, but I travel and use 4 different SIMs from 4 different countries, so it was well worth it for me).

Since we are all shooting fir the stars, here is my list:

-Print docs to network connected printer
-customizable themes
-allow you to grab pictures online and download to phone
-dedicated camera button
-landscape my life!

*note: some can be done if you unlock your phone. But why won’t Apple do it? They can capitalize on it, dontcha know?

I want MMS, Video-capture, cut/paste, 5 megapixel camera and blackberry enterprise support. I doubt everything I want will come with the iPhone 3.5G but I hope for at least cut/paste, 5 Mp cam and video capture.

I agree with Lance’s, all of that plus could we get a 5mp or higher camera, they are out there. Hell, talk to 3m and get that pico projector in the phone, then I could do my presentations from the phone, video talk and everything, then again we need a network to support it. holding breath, let me know if I should keep the oxygen tank on.

Desires for new iPhone:

1. Better camera — resolution improvement, flash, focus, video (perhaps this is only a software limitation with the current models)
2. More internal storage — 64GB minimum, would love 128 GB if price is reasonable
3. Longer battery life — does not have to be a removable battery if life for active use is greater than ten hours

If people want iPhones on Verizon and Sprint networks try to convince those providers to get with most of the rest of the world and change their networks to use the standards being used most everywhere else. That way phone manufacturers will only have one standard to deal with and not have to make different models depending on what network in the US you plan to use. Until that day, people are better off using AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile.

Meh the iPhone is so 2007. The thing to realize is in this society, nothing that becomes mainstream is exciting or cool anymore. I always thought the iPhone was oh so cool until I bought one, used it for a while, and got bored of it and went back to my BlackBerry. I can live without the iPhone easily. I can’t live without my BlackBerry. The iPhone is the new RAZR.

Yeah, it’s hard to gauge. I haven’t ever owned one, but i’ve fooled around with some of my friends’ iPhone’s. Within 30 mins I definitely knew that it wasn’t what I needed my phone to be. I can’t even consider it to be a contender unless it has business centric options available. Ultimately, the multi-tasking is the biggest concern, followed by more depth in the calendar, a -today- screen, and a radio that actually allows for a decent phone call.

To everyone complaining about what the iPhone -doesn’t- do:

Get rid of it.

Then Apple will have to re-evaluate it’s product, and the market fow which it is geared. They will have to decide if they want to be known as the next Sidekick: attractive to tweens everywhere, but to no one that takes their phone seriously.

and using something that doesnt scratch so easy i know they make more money from you going in the store spending 30 bucks on cases and 15 on screen protectors but give us a product that makes those things accessories and not Necessities

I always thought the iPhone 3G had GPS. Doesn’t the first gen have only wifi triangulation and the 3G have a GPS chip? I could be way off but I was always glad they added GPS to the 3G as it was a notable absence in the original.

Wishlist for software updates (which can actually be done the the current software, but they are probably just waiting for new hard ware to release new software):

1. Stereo Bluetooth
2. Copy and Paste
3. MMS Messaging
4. Video Recording
5. Full-Fledged Turn by Turn GPS
6. Landscape keyboards for all apps.
7. Flash support for internet browsing.
8. Multi-tasking in background (so I won’t be signed out of AIM/Facebook/all that)
9. Real Push Email

Wishlist for hardware updates:

1. Better Camera (preferrably at LEAST 5.0MP w/ flash and dedicated camera button)
2. Forward facing camera for video conferencing.
3. FM Radio Receiver.
4. Support to 1700-band
5. Greater Internal Storage
6. SD Card support
7. NO PHYSICAL KEYBOARD (this is what makes the iPhone special)
8. Notificiation LED (similar to blackberry)…so I don’t have turn my phone on each time I want to check if I got a text/call.

Sorry, but my reply was solely regarding the iPhone and the irrational lists being posted here. That’s not to say that Apple could not do more to enhance the OS, but again, those with lengthy laundry-lists are Apple-hating trolls spewing their list of all those elements which make the iPhone completely [snicker ] unusable.

When did MS incorporate that _never_ needed feature known as ‘X = Close App’ _OS_ feature after 10 years of ‘development’?

I’m not a whiner. I’m not a hater.

I have an iPhone and I’m quite happy with it, and glad I got it…

I don’t use mine for business use. So while full exchange capabilities doesn’t matter to me – I can understand that it does matter to a lot, if you wnat to classify iPhone as a business phone.

So, as a consumer with no business needs…

I’d like to see MMS, Allowance of apps to run in the background (IMs, navigation, etc.,) notifications like the Pre is going to have, a better camera (higher resolution, video, flash,) allowance of gps programs besides google maps, better sound quality, removable storage, larger storage, and – while I don’t use bluetooth… I’ve heard about the problems – full bluetooth capability, and flash support.

I’d LOVE to see a home screen that is more than just a list of icons of apps. I’d love to see my calendar, recent calls, to-do list, other notifications, bigger clock. I’d love to be able to customize that with widgets. Think G1.

Physical Keyboard? Why? How about someone develop a keyboard that works via bluetooth? or a USB port (can we add that too?)

The iPhone is fun, cool, a vision of the future. It’s easy to use for even the most untechy of people. It’s a great device that, quite simply – can be made better.

Remember what people thought about the first iPods when they came out??? Now look where we are!

@backbeat: actually no, most of these features are standard on many Nokia S60 devices and have been for a while. The base functionality like copy/paste,bluetooth profiles, and MMS are completely under Apples control. Apple of course is not going after the geek market – thankfully we have the jailbreak to make up for some of the lameness of the base OS. The iPhone has many advantages and few phones come close to it with ease of browsing pages, but it continues to lack a lot of functionality even low end “free” phones have.

I personally own the iPhone, Nokia and HTC (win mobile) devices, and switch between them on a monthly basis – so I’ve had the opportunity to explore the functionality of all the major platforms. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I believe Apple is reluctant to unlock a lot of the functions based on their agreement with ATT and their continual “we’re different” approach to pretty much all their products. I am not sure what the future hardware revision hopes to add, but seeing how they continue to uniformly support 2G and 3G firmware, I think the change will be mostly hardware. We might see a faster clocked iPhone with more storage and a nicer camera.
