i-mate lives, prepares to ‘break new ground’ at MWC
Apparently i-mate will be among the companies trying to make waves at next month’s Mobile World Congress and from the sound of things, we could be in for a surprise – or another big let down. Crediting a PR firm as its source, msmobiles revealed that i-mate is preparing to unveil and new handset at MWC and it looks to be putting all of its eggs in one basket.
At MWC 2009 i-mate will be unveiling its brand new product – one which sees them break new grounds with a revolutionary mobile device that’s like nothing else.
i-mate Hummer? While we hope it’s something a bit more interesting, we’re certainly not getting our hopes up. “Break new ground” and “revolutionary” are buzz terms that are tossed around with no discretion these days. Obvious speculation: Touchscreen, hi-rez display, Windows Mobile 6.5, tweaked UI based on i-mate Go and some bells and whistles to top it off. What do you guys think – does i-mate have a few tricks left up its sleeve or is this the last ditch effort of a battered company?
Thanks, Ivan!

Wot, these guys are still around? I thought they just peddled re-branded HTC hardware…
i thought they were owned by htc. guess not.
@Zach: Agree completely with your summation of what to expect. The _only_ way I foresee iMate doing anything beyond that recipe is if they got their own Elevation partner for outside help.
They USED to sell HTC hardware, however HTC did not own them. Actual HTC phones were Qtek phones and DoPod phones. Nonetheless, the iMate Ultimate series of phones from last year was done without the help of HTC.
I-Mate stopped selling re-branded HTC products when HTC started selling under their own name. Why have 2 companies selling the same thing just different names in the same market?
This is I believe when i-Mate died, when they switched over to TechFaithWireless as their device manufacturer.
Wow, I had an XDA II back in the day. I seriously loved that thing and hated getting rid of it. It was an awesome little device. I’d love to see them get back in the game!
Cool well the Kjam was my first smartphone I liked it let’s see what imate has in store for us in 2009
and as expected i-mate was all bark! The new i-mate 810-F looks like a bulky t-mobile dash/blackberry. lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame.
