Windows Mobile 6.5 “honeycomb” home screen gets pictured
The much rumored “honeycomb”-style home screen for the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 has made its appearance in yet another leak. Small-time handset manufacturer Compulab, which has yet to produce a viable product, has posted a few images of its upcoming Exeda handset supposedly running Windows Mobile 6.5 Alpha. The two screenshots show the honeycomb launcher and a full screen background image. The screenshot of the honeycomb launcher features a giant, if not a bit ugly, application close “X” button that is presumably more touch friendly than the current application close button. Remember though, this is an alpha we’re looking at so things can certainly change. You can expect more of these leaks in the upcoming weeks as Mobile World Congress approaches and the expected announcement of Windows Mobile 6.5 draws near. Hit the jump for another shot.

I don’t know anything about it, beyond looking at the picture, but it looks like a prop leftover from Logan’s Run
uh, are they really going to release something that fugly?
I don’t know how I feel about that. It kind of just looks like a skin that goes over the current OS, not a redesign.
I’ve gotten good use out of windows mobile in the time I’ve used it. I think Microsoft needs to do a UI rethink totally – I’m taking it that 6.5 is just a stopgap/filler until they’ve finished Mobile 7?
I think I just threw up my digestive system looking at that phone(?)
I prefer the HTC TouchFLO 3D home screen. And the finger based scrolling, etc are already built-in HTC TouchFLO. The only thing I like about the WM 6.5 is the new IE6 with Flash support.
To be honest, it looks like Microsoft took a trip back in time and stole the home screen from a scrapped Palm OS. Is this the new Windows ME/Vista for WinMo? I love my WinMo phones but I’ve seen better solutions from third party companies when WinMo 5 was out.
Wow, just wow.
The device is uglier, and the “new UI” is, well its horrible!
Really, Windows Mobile: Professional 5 is better than that by default, and combined with certain third-party programs (such as Spb Software House’s Spb Mobile Shell), well it’s got no chance…
Microsoft, if this is *really* what you plan to offer in competition to the Apple iPhone and others, I’d go back to the drawing board – either that or start waving the white flag!
