T-Mobile says “meh” to 3G, will have G1s everywhere today

As of today, T-Mobile is going to be selling the G1 in retail outlets that are not within its 3G footprint. Prior to this, the only way that someone would be able to get a G1 was to visit a T-Mobile shop in an area that had 3G coverage or through T-Mobile’s website. Many T-Mobile customers were understandably upset that they were not able to purchase a G1 in person due to previous 3G area only restrictions. Then again, when you think back, T-Mobile did have a shortage of units to deal with so one can’t exactly blame them for only selling these in their largest markets. So, if you’ve been eyein’ a G1 for some time, happen to live in a non-3G area, and don’t want a white one (don’t you know they are sold out everywhere?), hit up your local T-Mobile crack dealer, and get your fix.

I’ve been seeing quite a few of these while walking the streets in Hollywood.

I just saw the first white one out in the wild while at my bank on Friday. The white definitely looks more classy than the drab black or ugly bronze color.

I’ll wait till the 2nd generation comes around. Hopefully many of the complaints surrounding the first unit will be addressed on the second release. (lack of ST BT, 2.5MM headjack, chubby design, lack of a cupcake style keyboard)

This is not true. Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton Ohio stores have all had the g1 since it cane out and to my knowledge tmobile 3g is nowhere around here. Someone tell me otherwise about Ohio. Seriously. I’d be happy.

    Perspective says:

A friend of mine might’ve got one, but the T-Mobile guy said his credit was too good. T-Mobile is kind of the “Mitsubishi” of cell carriers; they’re a haven for those walking financial disasters with low wage jobs and sub-650 credit scores.

Right, which is why T-Mobile doesn’t offer their home phone service or more than 3 lines to people with poor credit. Your friend is probably a liar

@Perspective.Either you are a dolt. Your friends credit score or T_Mobiles customer base is absolutely irrelevant to G1’s latest marketing push.

3G Answer: T-Mobile continues to roll out 3g every quarter. The goal last quarter was to bring 3G to over 20 core markets. The goal was accomplished. As for this year 2009, you can follow the roll out of 3G through http://www.t-mobile.com. T-Mobile has spent over $6 Billion on it’s 3G network. That is why the network is the fastest 3G out of all the wireless carriers. As for one of the comments earlier. T-Mobile has a VIP section for those customer with AWESOME credit & some form of celebrity status. My apologies to your friend if he received inaccurate information from T-Mobile representative. It is a possibility that your friend may not have qualified for service with T-Mobile and the representative didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Either way, T-mobile is capable of accommodating customers from all walks of life. Have a wonderful day.

    Rich from Columbus says:

Ohio (particularly Columbus) did not have the G1 as StevenGlansburg said. I had to get mine from the website. Every tmobile store I drove by I stopped to buy one and got the same answer…no 3G. no G1.

I’m glad to see it’s finally available in the retail stores. Now, it’s time to get the 3G here already.

I’ve had the G1 since it came out….didn’t have 3G back then, don’t have it now. Probably never will have it…because latley T-mobile has been nothing but bullshit. I’ve been with them for 5 years and the last year and a half has made me have my doubts on them. Basicly what I’m trying to say is….fuck T-mobile.
