The top 10 things we hate about the iPhone

Look, we love our iPhones as much as the person, but at this late point in the game, there are some things that are just inexcusable. Here’s our top 10 things we hate about the iPhone, and we’ll post up our top 10 things we hate about the Bold later on. Feel free to chime in with your own! Also note that we’re talking about the iPhone in its default state, not a jailbreaked unit. Here’s our list in no particular order:

1. You can’t use custom sounds for email notifications, SMS, etc.

2. Copy and paste. Sorry, but it’s ridiculous at this point.

3. When forwarding an email with an attachment, the iPhone sends it out locally. That means if you have a 1MB attachment, you have to send 1MB worth of data when forwarding. This doesn’t happen on Windows Mobile or the BlackBerry — it’s sent from the server. Not cool.

4. No unified inbox. At this point, there’s no reason you should have to go through the rigmarole of switching through tabs and endless menus to get to another email inbox. Cut this down, give us color-coded emails that correspond with that particular account — something!

5. Video recording. Again, it’s technically possible, but we don’t have it.

6. The touch screen capture button in the Camera application is horrid. Let’s use one of the volume keys or something to take a picture. It’s not a good setup.

7. You can’t forward text messages. Something that is a no-brainer just isn’t here.

8. There isn’t a way to delete individual calls from the recent call list. Not that we need to hide anything from our girlfriends or anything…

9. No file structure that is user-accessible. That means you can’t save any attachment that isn’t a photo, you can’t download files from websites, etc. Additionally, each application can only access its own file structure so you can forget about doing anything sexy.

10. The push-background notification service is still nowhere to be found.

What about dropped calls? Voicemails when the phone never rang? “Cannot connect to cellular data network?” “Error sending message?” Man this phone/service is useless.

Here’s another: it’s crappy as an iPod.

    Where’s my shuffle albums option?
Where did the track/podcast info listing go?
Why can’t I update ALL my podcasts OTA, instead of checking each one individually?
Slider for track position stinks compared to the scroll wheel.

and on, and on, and on…

    How about this:

You can NOT dial a number embedded in a calendar apt. The iPhone treats the whole event as an image.

Is there any other smartphone that does NOT let you highlight and dial a number in a calendar event?

The iphone doesn’t care if it is in the subject or body – No dial for you!

For all these reasons is mostly why God created the Blackberry Bold.

    Ian,

Take it back. Mine had the exact same problem -it would drop and “refind” the network several times an hour. I took it back and got a new one- no problems since then.

And that’s why I’m strongly going to consider the Palm Pre when it’s available. I hope the competition pushes Apple to address these issues.

I’m afraid that the features and improvements made possible by the OS X foundation (and by not being tied to physical keys) just aren’t living up to the hype. Apple should know – this is not the time to stagnate, and sit on a lead. They need to continue to improve the product, and add the things that should be there, and live up to the promises.

Oh there are a few things I personally hate, but it may be more with AT&T than Apple. Let’s see…

No flash support. Really, Apple? Really?
Amount of dropped calls. More AT&T but w/e
Safari browser constantly kicking me out to the homescreen. I’m paying $120 a month for something that works half the time?
And finally, the amount of times my iPhone actually freezes (10 minutes or more) and I’m not able to turn it off or reset it.

Personally, I’m gonna go check out a blackberry. I just want something that “works”

i get a headache sometimes when i think about the lack of copy and paste. it is such an annoyance. i really dont get why apple is so stubborn when it comes to implementing important features. they need to get their heads out of their asses.

    1. How about a terrible earpiece and over-sensitive mic? I swear I can’t talk on that thing more than 15mins, the earpiece really kills my ear, it gives out so much treble… and the mic is super sensitive, I always have a hard time trying to have a conversation over the phone even when I’m in malls….

    2. How about not being forced to pay for ringtone? I know mac users can use Garageband but what about Windows users? and the stupid 40 seconds limit to each ringtone?

    3. Speaker is terrible, sound quality sucks and quiet.. if you turn it up to the max, the speaker gets distorted….. and it’s supposed to be an ipod….?

    4. REMOVABLE BATTERY PLEASE!!! or better battery life…

    5. Multitasking? hello????

    6. P2P Video Calling??

Not sure if this falls under copy/paste but I hate when I have to text person A, person B’s phone number. I have to close SMS app, open Contacts, *Memorize* the number, open SMS app and text it.
When I had my BB I could do it in 2 seconds. Now I loathe doing it!
