More major AT&T network woes, when will it stop?

The past month or so have not been kind to AT&T’s wireless networks. Constant and often major network outages have been rolling across the country for the better part of a month now and these mounting issues come on top of ongoing complaints regarding AT&T’s ever-slowing 3G network. Not good. An anonymous tipster brings news of this latest major network issue, affecting Philadelphia and the surrounding area. The symptoms this time around include the inability to hear the party on the other end of the line during outbound and inbound calls. We’re going to go out on a limb here and say it’s pretty important to, you know, hear the person you’re talking to. The good news for those affected: AT&T is well aware of the problem and hopefully it will be resolved in a timely manner. Hit the jump for the full AT&T ticket.

    Edward O says:

Actually, the problem is that they can’t hear me. I can hear them fine.

The problem is 3G based. Turning off 3G for the time being solves the problem. Obviously not a permanent solution, but it will do if you are looking to make calls.

Philly and NY have had plenty of 3G issues recently, come on AT&T, work on this. I am paying you guys more then enough.

As a former AT&T customer service rep I just have 3 things to say.

    1. Not that surprised to hear there’s an issue but not to worry AT&T does pretty well at handling large scale issues like this pretty quick.

    2. I can verify that the posted ticket is real (I’m all too familiar with systems that AT&T use).

    3. Whoever the anonymous tipster is did a very risky thing, because believe it or not they do have a way of knowing every person that touched this ticket and wouldn’t be surprised if this tipster ends up standing in line at the unemployment office. But thanks for the info. And for a bit of advice, next time blank out the last few numbers of the ticket.

So Verizon never has network problems?

Maybe they just don’t have there issues reported so eagerly.

I can tell you for a fact that every carrier has issues at some point. There is no perfect network. Just because you don’t have a problem where you are isn’t proof that someone else doesn’t.

Verizon has no network problems because their phones can only call, text, and download music off their servers… not a whole lot going on there

    Nate says:

    You’re right, theta think.

Verizon’s network constantly has huge chunks of it going down. However, all of its subscribers are so fanboyish that we just don’t report it, because we all want it to appear perfect.

Give me a break. The only people who do things like that are Apple fanboys.

I live in the Atlanta area and yesterday for about an hour my iPhone 3G had no service. I turned it off, reset the phone, and took out and put back in the sim car and that did nothing. Eventually I got service back but it’s outrageous what’s going on with at&t…

PS If I could change one thing… I wouldn’t have got the iPhone. It’s very convenient at times but more than not it’s crashing or losing service, stick with a regular phone or Blackberry!

It would be nice if instead of sending out text messages about american idol AT&T would send out text messages alerting us to network issues (assuming, of course, the text messaging is working!)

Will these issues fade once they edge from its current bandwith and fully focus on 3g or can at&t come to expect these for a long time coming without relief?

I feel for some at&t customers. I’d die if I didn’t have constant access to my data/voice on my bb.

Luckily I live in an area that has free wifi access and decent coverage.

I have been having nothing but problems on ATT out here in Southern Cali. Nothing but dropped calls on my Bold. Sick of ATT, it has done nothing but go down hill since the orig iphone came out and its getting worse!! They just can’t handle the amount of people on their network and they are too cheap to upgrade. I am seriously considering switching. i am curious as to what bgr uses as his phone (or phones) and what service he has???

I stopped by a friend’s home in Queens
    he was using iPhone 3G
when doing speedtest (speedtest.net and text.dslreports.com/mspeed), the speed test couldn’t perform on his iPhone, while I got 500-800kbps with netbook tethered with TM506 (with T-Mobile)
    then load the site nocelticboundaries.co.uk
    mine loaded in 5 seconds
it took about a minute on his iPhone
    so disappointed…

I have been a AT&T Wireless customer since they became a wireless company. I have never had a problem of any kind for any reason with AT&T. Their service has always been exceptional and I have never had to call customer service.
I am now using the Blackberry Bold and couldn’t be happier with the 3G service.
I have always been a little smug when friends and family members have a lot of trouble with their carriers. I love AT&T.

You really have that much trouble with your iPhone? I have yet to have my crash, and it get’s a better signal that my Tilt, 8525, or 8125 did. Best phone I’ve ever used, and that’s coming from a windows mobile guy. :)

I’m in Philly, with an iPhone 3G, and have no 3G or EDGE data on AT&T. Definitely NOT having that voice problem. Having a data problem. AT&T told me the voice fix would probably also fix my data issue. Should I be skeptical?
