Mac Mini may get refreshed with NVIDIA Ion GPU

Fanboys (and girls) were disappointed this year when Macworld ended without a bang, and more importantly, without an updated version of the Mac Mini. Just because the shindig is over doesn’t mean rumors are going to be squashed of course. A partner to NVIDIA, the company currently providing GPUs for MacBooks and MacBook Pros, said that there is a new unit the company is developing for the Mac Mini. Unfortunately, the news was almost solid until there was more speculation the GPU would be used for the Apple TV, but that unnamed NVIDIA partner stands by his or her claim that it’s coming to a refreshed version of the Mac Mini. All you Mac Mini fans out there waiting for a refreshed Mini to use as a media center, we’ll be sure to keep you informed as the news develops.

The Atom has lower performance than the slowest 45nm C2D. Even without the craptacular Intel graphics – I still think that a C2D with the nVidia GPU would be better suited.

I never thought I’d say this but I’m actually considering one of these.

I’m more of a workstation person, but I need something cheap and dirty for app testing and this would more than fit the bill.

Too bad people hold on to these things like Gold. Craigslist never has these things for sale where I live.

If they can put out a new mini at around the $500 price point and with modern hardware (even a mid-range dual core and a couple of gigs of RAM) I would finally consider buying an Apple computer. I’d love to be able to do Final Cut Pro work at home and not the office but not enough to buy a $2000 iMac. I’ve already got a good desktop at home.

Apple TV doesn’t need a hardware update, it needs a big big software up date. There is so much they could add to it and make it do.
