Visual Voicemail coming to BlackBerry Bolds?
One our tipsters sent us in these screenshots from his Bold, and what do you know, there’s a Visual Voicemail icon on his homescreen. He told us it errors out when he tries to launch it, but has anyone else seen this? The OS he is running is 4.6.0.219 and his carrier is AT&T. Additionally, he noted that BlackBerry Application Center modules are loaded to the device on OS install, but we informed him that without the Application Center service books, that thing isn’t going to launch. We’ll dig a little deeper into this one, but what’s the general consensus here? One more shot after the breakage!

Hopefully they don’t charge for it like they do with Verizon!

Up to 219 from vs 167? I feel outdated.

You would think that they would concentrate on getting push to talk onto the handset for those business customers and consumers that either had it on the 8800 series or that used it for business purposes first!!

That would be a huge step for this berry user.

This would be great. I’m a little jealous of my girlfriends iphone whenever she shows off with it.
I haven’t loaded that OS however as there were a few other small bugs people reported in those beta OS’s after 216.

Try YouMail coupled with VyMail - free visual voicemail available now. It works really well.

Lol! I tweeted this days ago BG, you ignored it, where’s the love? lmao!!

This should be pretty fun. As long as the data plan is on there I wouldn’t imagine being charged for the VVM feature.

This is for all the ppl looking into this story and wondering how come they’re stuck at version 167 while 219 is out.
The 219 is most likely from a bold OS on another carrier (eg: Rogers, Orange) or an updated OS for those who bought an unlocked Bold from RIM, or even a leaked beta release to the next upcoming software update.
I know several ppl who’ve installed different carrier OS into AT&T’s bold..and while it hasn’t unlocked the handset..many have reported fewer dropped calls and improved reception and signal strength.
There are quite a few different software update options floating around on different blackberry forums…it’s a trial-and-error method to find which one is best for your phone.

This is the only feature of the iPhone that interests me. Everything else my Bold does, and does better. Of course I don’t care about music and videos, otherwise the iPhone might hold more interest for me. Visual Voicemail is a big win for the BB!

Hey BG, is there an option for updating your OS on the Bold. I’m running the 4.6.0.167…should I be on the .219? Is there any benefit? If so, How do I update. Thanks!

They’re just going to charge you extra to provision it. Just use vymail and youmail and you got yourself free visual voicemail.

YES !!! … this is why i prefer at&t and the BOLD

I think that as long as they don’t charge out the butt for it my execs will love it. But knowing AT&T…

Oh yeah…! I hope they don’t charge a monthly fee for it though. That would be an immediate dream killer…

I don’t think Verizon charges extra for VVM on the Storm.

Tony,
Sadly VZW does charge. However there are several differences between their version and the Iphone version

My provider Telus had Visual Voicemail and I tried it because I find calling into voicemail a pain. Cancelled it within the month. Mainly because my dad was calling and he has an english accent. I had to call him to ask what message he left because it was always messed up. Like, hi devil, rabiit is chicken with gravy. to you cana.

How do you know about BGR but not about the forums where you can find out how to upgrade your BB? Maybe I am old school and remember BGR when he used to a be a poster on howardforums.com (thats a hint for you)

unfortunately, if at&t controls the service books, they will probably also to some degree control the content. that means we’ll see more at&t crap in the appstore than what comes preloaded on the phone already

http://www.blackberryforums.com is a much better location where BB admins support the forums without all the in-your-face ads for all that overpriced Made-in-China accessory crap of that other low-brow location.

Nope. Don’t have it. But I’m only on. .216 so far on ATT…
