HTC Iolite comes into focus

The HTC Iolite has been bouncing around in one grainy-pic form or another for the past several weeks, but we’re finally beginning to see some clarified spec listings, not to mention some clarified device shots. The Iolite looks a lot like a modernized version of the Touch Cruise, and sports Windows Mobile 6.1, TouchFlo 3D, 512MB ROM, 288MB RAM, HSDPA/HSUPA with quad-band EDGE, Wifi, GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and more, all powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm CPU. In other words, a pretty well-spec’d HTC-sourced Windows Mobile handset. The image also clearly depicts a dedicated key marked HTC Footprints. Geo-tagging anyone? All told, there’s nothing too crazy here but certainly enough to attract the sort of Windows Mobile faithful that are HTC’s bread and butter. We’ll keep you informed as price point and release date come near, but don’t cross your fingers for an American carrier-subsidized release any time soon.

An ugly phone from HTC in a long time. Reminds me of cheap Chinese phones that i saw being sold on the side of the road in Pakistan.

Ugh… I hope that’s not the “Palm Pre” killer HTC was talking about, that thing IS ugly. The Touch Diamond and Pro are both gorgeous, what the h@ll is that thing??

The problem is that there is no shortage of decent WM 6.1 phones. It’s not really very exciting until it has WM6.5/7 or Android or something else new.

The most interesting thing here is that HTC is building the majority of it’s phone with near identical hardware specs. This is putting WM 7 in a much more stable position when it gets rolled out and should help standardize the WinMo experience like some of the single form factor devices are capitalizing on/

By the way, the image is relatively fake.

That’s the O2 XDA Guide (with the O2 branding cleverly photoshopped).

It’s again made by HTC, but it’s not the HTC-branded retail device codenamed Iolite.

I agree with HTC standardizing everything. I think that’s in line with MS saying we’re going to be seeing less handsets but more standardized ones in the future…makes sense.

You guys are not doing your home work. This phone is going to t-mobile as the Wing II. Compared to the previous wing, this phone is alot sleeker and even offers touch flo. It’s a step up from the original wing.
