SIDEKICKS U HAVE TO GO THROUGH A WHOLE THING JUST TO OPEN A TEXT MESSAGE WHILE THE ENV TOUCH U OPEN RIGHT UP AND EVERY SINGLE SIDEKICK FREZZES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yeah all sidekicks are horrible! listen to me, i have the sidekick lx 2009 right now and i hate it. ive had every sidekcick that came out and im tired of them and tmobile!!!! the service isnt good at all i dont care what any one says because i had tmobile for 2 years and i reget it!!!! SWITCH TO VERIZON WIRELESS LIKE I AM AND GET THE ENV TOUCH!!!!!!!!!!! THAT PHONE IS SO COOOL IT HAS TWO SCREENS, GAMES, AND YOU CAN TEXT THREE WAYS WHICH IS PHENOMINAL. LASTLY, WITH THE SIDEKICKS YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A WHOLE HUGE THING TO GET INTO TEXT MESSAGING WHILE ON THE ENV TOUCH IT POPS RIGHT UP

THE SIDEKICK IS NOT MEANT FOR ADULTS WITH JOBS AND FEEL THE NEED TO IMPRESS THEIR CO-WORKERS BY THE PHONE THEY USE.

Okay. Seriously. All of you above me bashing the SK need to chill the f*ck out.

First of all, the phone pictured above is like what, 2001? 2002? Okay. Cool. Guaranteed it was top of the line 6 years ago.

I’ve had two different sidekicks. The sidekick 3 and the 2008.

I’ve stuck with them for more than 2 and a half years and I am not planning on switching to a different kind of phone anytime soon.

Let me also tell you T-Mobile basically started the whole “fave 5″ thing. Unlimited calls to certain people for 10 dollars a month more than the other plan.

Best.Thing.Ever.

My best friend lives in Georgia and at points during the summer we’d spend more than 10,000 minutes a month on the phone.

All thanks to T-Mobile.

Verizon and Alltel and whatever else is coming out with these “unlimited calling options”…THEY’RE JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON A LITTLE LATE.

In addition, sidekicks have THE BEST mobile internet, AIM, and email systems of any phone I have ever used (and I play with a lot of my friends phones…blackberrys, voyager, env, etc.)

Oh.

And does YOUR phone allow UNLIMITED email, AIM, MSN, Yahoo IM, texting, picture messaging, and internet for only $20 a month? No.

I have an itouch. So don’t tell me the iphone is better. The apps are cool and everything but whenever I have to type on there I want to shoot myself. I can type faster on my sidekick than I can on my laptop and I can type over 70 wpm without even trying.

I think I’ve made my point.

I am in my late 20’s and I have the sidekick 08. I love it. It’s great in the work place and all the applications work great. Yes, I wish it had a 3G network, but I can go on almost any site I like and I can still multitask within the phone and go back to the site. It’s not a tween phone. and some may think it’s bulky, but I hate those small phones you can’t even hold up to your ear properly. to all you bashing the phone, if you don’t like it, just don’t buy it. and that’s that.

Because you’re bashing the phone for the wrong reasons.You are acting like having a sidekick is the same as talking in slang,or wearing your pants off your butt! Its a phone,not a fad!!

I’m 38 & i still have a sidekick!!! I’ve had one since the Gen1,& have had every one since…
The sidekick was the 1st phone to have all the media applications in one unit,& be able to use them all at the same time! That’s why all the young people jumped on it, because you can communicate in so many ways,at the same time with ease! There still isn’t another phone on the market to match its ease & convenience!!! Oh Ive Tried Blackberries,& while i do like them; they are no sidekick. The keyboard & and ability to jump between applications cant even compare to the (SK)!!! I even listened to my “grown up” friends, and went out and got an Iphone… After 2Days of texting, & sending emails with that BS virtual keyboard; i put it rite back in the box,and went back to my (SK)! I’m only upset with Danger for leading the industry with the best phone on the market at that time, and then falling off by not building on it!!! There should have been a touch screen, 3G sidekick 2years ago…

But let me tell you wanna be grown ups something;Until the make a phone that works & feels like a sidekick, I’ll be right here!
And if they step their game up, improves the (SK)with a touch screen & 3G features then i’ll be someone’s grandfather with a SIDEKICK!!!

Office Joe!………shut up and comb your back hair.
I had a SK and went thru over 10 in one year.
They are made bad and freeze up frequently.
I know someone that has been sent over 30 replacement
Hand sets over the course of the last 2 years.My point being,
Blackberry and Apple can’t even be compared to a toy like the SK.

Ok…those of you who compair features or what a smartphone can do..lets review.

Send and recieve email, WITH attachments.. SK does it
IM- In the background-SK does it..uhm.. Iphone cant
Browse web with ability to multi-task- SK does it, Iphone cant.
Newer Handsets have high res screens with light sensor- SK has it, most nokias dont
good music player and simple OS with shortcuts…
I have an E71…a “grown up” phone… Symbian is nice..no real knocks on it..but the phone is to damn small.. the SK has a better form factor for those that like to hold a wider phone…Not every phone has to be so damn skinny and small.

I am going to be tempted with the new Nokia N97…and the new Android phones..but if the SK has made a good jump to future.. I WILL get one.. ON yeah…. I am a 31yr old professional in law enforcement..not a “tween”

and those with Blackberries….especially the BOLD..how are those workin out for you? Get your bad unit swapped out yet?

Of all the SK’s why oh why did you guys feature a picture of a Sidekick that has to be at least 5 years old? I’m not holding my breath for a new SK to revolutionize cell phones, but SK’s have always been niche phones that appeal to the teens and people in their early 20’s.

@AgBand: MS recently bought danger. The company that was responsible for the Sidekick’s software and back end configuration.

I’d really like to see an updated sidekick.

3G, GPS, not the size of a laptop, maybe a touch screen all the little things that make you realize a phone is from this century.

The LX was a step in the right direction. But the ’sidekick’ seemed like a step backwards. I think they should continue in that direction though and work towards making two lines of phones. One that an adult can carry and not feel like a tween. Other then the fact that its outdated now I’ve always thought that the hardware, software and the back end were some of the best implemented out there. Then they should also make a ’sidekick’ that focuses on affordability and fashion.

But for SK to have 3G, T-Mo needs to improve its 3G coverage. At this moment, Sprint and VZW are already launching 4G networks — and our boys in Bonn are still struggling with early 21st century technology.

I’ve got an iPhone now, but as I recall, even some of the older models of Sidekicks did things that the iPhone can’t do today, like running AIM in the background, sending and receiving MMS messages, over the air upgrades to the OS and copy and paste. It had the greatest keyboard too, and the data package was more affordable. Very easy to use. And it had an app store years ago, and push email and synched your data to their website (no charge like MobileMe). I don’t regret moving to the iPhone, since the Sidekick wasn’t able to stay current with advancing technology, but it was a cool little phone. If I lost my iPhone and was forced to go back to a Sidekick, I don’t think I’d be crying over it.

I remember when i first went of to college I and first saw a Sidekick I thought they were the coolest handset ever!! I liket the way the screen swiveled around. I wanted to get one but it wasn’t until recently that T-Mobile offered service in NC. Anyway I remember the first color sidekick had the camera attachement that you could use to take pictures. Then came the Sidekick 2. After I started learning what other smartphones could do I started to see how juvenile Sidekicks really are. I think they do have a place and are great for messaging but not very functional or productive. And now I have a Blackberry and wonder how I was ever without one. The IM programs available for Blackberries outshine all other smartphone IM applications as well, so that is an added plus.

I am a big fan of the form factor of the Sidekicks…When I came to the UK I was upset to see T-Mobile had poor coverage in my area, but it has improved recently… And now I see a new Sidekick on the way!?!?!? I hope Microsoft has made some changes to the features and who knows what lies in wait for the OS…. excited!

True, Steve, at some point, a twenty- or thirty-something shouldn’t be caught dead with a Sidekick, especially when there is the Samsung Rant, which has almost every feature found in a mature smartphone save for the operating system and lots of internal memory. It is actually sophisticated in style and operation.

But the reason for the Sidekick’s existence and popularity isn’t older adults like you and I. It’s for the kiddies who want their first real high-end-like phone and love everything that adults find hideous like T-and-A posters from Spencer’s Gifts, Hot Topic short skirts replete with spiked belts and T-shirts from Hollister.

I had one of these when I was a jr in college and while it lacked in many areas I still haven’t had a phone that comes close to having as good of an AIM client. With that being said it is great for 22 & years younger, but you gotta grow up some time.
