Sprint ETF settlement leaves $90 up for grabs for customers
Remember all the hoopla about Sprint’s ETF and the lawsuit it was facing because of their policy? Well, as a result of the proposed settlement that is likely to move forward, it looks like anyone who started and subsequently ended a contract with Sprint between July 1999 and December 2008 is looking at some cash. All you have to do is show proof that you canceled during that time window and paid an ETF, and you’ll be getting $90 for your troubles. Of course, $90 is probably nowhere near what you had to pay to get out of contract and it’s hardly a consolation for all the heartache you had to go through, but it’s better than nothing. In the event you stuck with Sprint during that time period in order to avoid the ETF, you get $35. All you have to do now is deal with the paperwork and process of going through all this stuff and that green will find its way into your pockets.

lol.
Sprint is a worthless provider. Why not try and take care of your existing customers, not push them away. Customer service is a nightmare, the billing system no one understands, and the smartphone lineup is unbearable. The clock is ticking for those guys…..
The smartphone linup is quite good. The centro, and 755. The Touch Pro and diamond. 3 blackberries. The Treo 800w and soon the treo pro and pre. What more can you want?
Smokes the pda lineups for tmobile, verizon, and alltel. Not sure of att but I can’t count unlocked phones in their stable.
Thanks BGR!
Just filled out my claim form, took about five minutes to complete.
Filled out my claim form, no idea what my phone number was in 2000 since i move around a lot, and not sure what good it would do since someone else probably has that number if it hasn’t been swapped ten times already. Hopefully, one of the lawyers sill call me up so i can tell them why don’t you just ask for our SS number instead.
What was the lawsuit about the etf over? Every carrier has it so what made this lawsuit viable? I think Vzw settled one similar not too long ago.
why do people who feel guilty paying more for worse service feel they need to bash sprint..
Gotta LMAO at gog8rs. An ancient 7100 Blackberry, the discontinued [by Palm & Sprint] 755 AND 800w can be included in your count with a straight face? What’s in that pipe you’re tokin’?
More power to those that and I hope the money recieved helps, if you think about it though, staying would’ve saved you more. If there were coverage issues, leaving is the only option but chasing a device not so much. There are few smartphones not on all carriers the Omnia, Eternity and Behold (somewhat variations of the same phone) then the t mo Shadow. Sprint is still the only carrier with the new Palms and 1st to carry them.
^Your misrepresentation of entertainment phones [Eternity/Behold]as smartphones notwithstanding, one can make an informed decision based upon the device and the timing of release. This is simply beyond argument.
Not everyone needs to be on your carrier nor need to be exposed to your thinly-veiled shilling efforts.
@backbeat
Why bash? And by 3 blackberries, he means the Pearl, Curve, and the 8350i, which is launched now. At least our PDA’s aren’t crippled i guess.
LOL @ Mike…Your so damn bitter……I bet your life is full of sadness…..Sprint is a good company. They are making progress. They are not going nowhere anytime soon.
^Why bash, indeed, Teck. Thanks for the admission that little-Donnie’s selective shilling was off the mark, but why the need to call every customer of every other carrier [but the Jesus-carrier] stupid for having made the _choice_ they did?
I opened the comments for this story just to see if backbeat was in here. Sure enough, he’s not only in here but has 1/4th of the current posts. Can you just rename yourself Sprint Troll?
^Thanks for removing all doubt that to you, it’s personal. Move on, cheerleader.
@ connie wait bonnie oh donnie listen sprint is prob making real risky moves to stay afloat. leasing spectrum , crazy cripple phones crazy stacking contracts one over another for features like text packages or internet services . im sorry and as a rep I’ve never been hung up on a customer. but have experienced it while on the phone with sprint. let the bashing commence. screw them . left sprint in 2005 as cust and emp never looked back. tmo rules sucka
I was just verifying the pattern that others have noticed and mentioned on Engadget and BGR that when there’s Sprint, there’s backbeat trashing them. Nothing you’ve even written here is about ETFs!
@samicoln who said: “Nothing you’ve even written here is about ETFs!”
^Got a mirror, genius?
Pretty sad when it takes a federal court to force [enter carrier name here] to do the semi-right thing for its customers, but at least it’s done. Shitty system that lets mega-corps get away with chronic overcharging for 10 years, however.
Gotta wonder what the _next_ settlement will bring.
I love everytime the term “Sprint” is used in a forum. For some odd reason it chimes in other terms like “bankruptcy”, “horrible CS”, “Crappy Phones”, etc. The only smartphone they lack is a next-gen Blackberry. I believe we are supposed to get one by the end of Q1. Other than that, you should take a gander at Sprint’s website and check out their phones. We are in no lack of quality smartphones.
We also are rated #1 in coverage, lack of dropped calls, and plan pricing. Also, our 3G (EVDO Rev. A/O) Has significantly larger coverage than either of the GSM carriers. Custumor service is still lacking as far as rankings go. Even though I have never personally had an issue with it.
So I’ll be enjoying my 99$ unlimited plan, including free UNLOCKED GPS, TV, BIS, never a dropped call, etc. on my 8330. While I glance at other comparable plans through other carriers have the same deal for 160$.
Once I get the Blackberry Niagra, I doubt I will ever have reason to glance at another carrier for a long time.
Too cheap to take your ad out in the New York Times, goatboy?
I agree with you on Sprint.
Price is perfect (FINALLY), the phone selection isnt too shoddy (look at T-Mobile and Verizon eww), and usable features of GPS. The data network is in San Francisco THE FASTEST over all carriers, additionally the data expands with its EVDO features being able to use 1x, unlike say Verizon (no EVDO features on 1x, so no VCAST).
Dropped calls, well Ive had a few but after calling back again, I realize its the other caller or their borderline coverage. Remember GSM kills calls at 1 bar more often then CDMA will.
I dont know dude, Sprint is a horrible company management wise, and customer service wise, but they really do have a great network and infrastructure that most carriers want their hands on, and no one can deny that. Nextel didnt sell its towers and those are in more places then Sprint had its CDMA towers, that alone is worth a lot.
I think Pedro was just stating his opinion that although doesn’t side with yours, made no specific comment against you personally.
Not really sure that justifies name calling …. ???
Oh and for me I took a $90 credit for ONE OF THE 3 LINES Ive had with Sprint that I could still verify, and a $35 check in fear of breaking this contract I have. Why break it if I love Sprint, because, I can get into the whole momentum of “lets play the game of move providers” – Im happy with Sprint.
@KSmithInNY: Once you’ve done your homework and seen their collective abuse of this site [and others] for their arrogant, self-serving promotion of their Jesus-carrier for what it is, you’ll better understand the big picture.
Shills are a dime-a-million. Can you hear me now?
