No new Xbox Console in Microsoft’s future
For those of you that have been sitting at home, pining away for a shiny new Xbox-branded console to replace your ailing 360, you might want to consider taking up a new hobby. Robbie Bach, president of MS’ entertainment division, revealed that the company has decided to focus its efforts on continuing development of the existing generation console for the foreseeable future. According to the company, research has proven that fewer gamers are in the market to upgrade their existing system these days, likely due at least in part to the ailing economy. As such, the company is planning on concentrating its efforts of exploiting the Xbox 360 to its full potential, with plans for new features and further game development. This isn’t terribly surprising, but it’s still a bit disappointing given the relative ago of the Xbox 360, which went into production in 2005…almost 4 years ago. Now that Microsoft has shown its cards, what new features would you most like to see the company work on integrating into the 360?

But that’s just it though…. you DO have to pay to play online!
how ever most games now (COD 4, halo) you cant play with out a gold membership
1) integrated WiFi
2)blue ray is not necessary. it can’t be internal, and whats the point for an external? just buy one.
3)smaller, quieter fan. although it is nice to play a game that is downloaded to the HD.
4)free xbox live!!!!!!!!!! that’s the biggest issue!
ps3 is really an awesome machine and it has many pros over xbox, but i use both and i have to say for live play i absolutely love the xbox’s live system way over ps3’s. most will agree with that.
i use ps3 for movies and single player games.
i use xbox for live play, better exclusives, and netflix.
don’t hate im just here to have fun!
The 360 owns the online world. You pay for quality, well except for the ps3 when your overcharged for pretty much nothing extra. The blu-ray player is nice, yes, but prices for the movies are stupid. I’d rather spend the $300 – 400 on a 360 and another $50 on my xbox live and get better quality. Game prices are the same so that helps none. I guess it depends on the type of games you like. If you are into shooters and that stuff, 360 is your thing. Sports, GTA, that type of stuff, get a ps3. Ill stick to my CoD for 360.
Orga said: “MS was never serious about HD-DVD. They just wanted to fuck with Sony. Remove the fanboy tint from your glasses for a minute, and you’ll realize that. If they were serious, they would have thrown a couple billion dollars at integrating HD-DVD into their console.”
@ orga: where is the proof for your absurd claim that MS was just fucking with Sony? That sounds like a fanboy dick-sucking excuse to me, Orga. If anybody has a fan boy tint to their glasses, it’s you, ya hypocritical dipshit.
PS 3 is a good system put most of the extra crap it comes with just brings up the price
why i want blue ray its crap.
who needs WI-FI
the only problem with the 360 is the 3 red lights of death.
once that is fixed it will be perfect
and cheap
better than the PS3 and the WII
WII for little kids
PS 3 for teens
Xbox 360 for real MEN!!!
Intergrated Wifi would indeed be a nice thing to see in future 360 models…but I think everyone is forgetting something…the many problems (most now openly admitted by microsoft) that 360 owners suffer from.
Im talking about faulty power bricks, the MANY ways that 360 games can be scratched or melted (yes, they can melt..even in a cool room), and of course RROD.
I would buy a new 360 tomorrow if microsoft fixed even one of those problems. I hope that ms considers redesigning some of the 360’s many flaws.
Good idea, but that would be difficult. If you wanted integrated wi-fi, you would have to send your console into Microsoft and pay to have it added. And many 360 users have already sent their consoles in many times before, think RRoD. Lol.
HI THERE BOO HOO HOO NO NEW XBOX I WANT MY SSD XBOX OR CALLED SOLID STATE FLASH DRIVE XBOX I HOPE SOME ONE WILL RELEASE A FAST SSD GAMING CONSOLE LIKE SEGA RINGEDGE WITH A 32 GB SSD STANDARD
I think we can all agree that there will always be a ‘back-and-forth’ between Xbox 360 and PS3 users. It comes down to personal preference. That being said, since everybody has all these different ideas for upgrades within the systems, wouldn’t a integrated multi-disk player be a nice upgrade? Like a 5 Disk Shuttle? And needless to say you can load different media in each slot. But it would most probably shoot the console price through the roof. Anyway… just a thought.
the x box is junk compared to the ps3. hardware wise there is no comparison. the fact that the online is free on the ps3, and the fact that nothing else has to be purchased to use all the functions available to the ps3. the x box is no cheaper when you have to buy accessories to make it as capable as the ps3. just like the american cars, the american x box falls short as to what the public wants.
@ herb: You argument makes sense and is true (for the most part), but you fail to forget that not everyone wants or needs the extras that the PS3 comes with. If I don’t have a wireless network at home, I don’t need integrated WiFi, so I would not be buying the adapter on the XBox and paying a premium for that on the PS3 would be stupid. If I don’t have an HDTV, I likely would not care about high-def movies, meaning I would not care about integrated Blu-ray. I would therefore not pay a premium for this. I have both consoles and enjoy them both, so I don’t have a real bias. I do use my PS3 a bit more often, but that is because I use it as my Blu-ray player. Your argument is sound for the most part, but your last statement falls short as to what reality is. Apparently the XBox 360 is pretty much what the public wants, as it trails only the Nintendo Wii in terms of sales. Good try though!
well silver memberships are free but if you dont get gold you cant play all gmaes online one being halo 3 so if you dont get gold you cant play the best 360 game online.
people should stop crying over the ps3’s price. its more powerful, has blue ray, wifi, hard drive built in, you dont have to pay for rechargable batteries or batteries AT ALL, and how many ps3’s do you hear about breaking compared to the 360’s “RRoD”s? plus, project natal is already fail due to the fact that dark skinned people will have a harder time playing it (look it up if you dont believe me). seriously, id have rather gotten a wii before my 360.
i bet all u xbox fans aint sayin all that crap bout ps3 now
i bet all u xbox fans aint sayin all that crap bout ps3 noww
OMG, getting the fanboy stuff out, reading all these replyes were really good for me ^^ I just bought my wii, didn’t know wich plataform would get but choose wii because of the fun playing with friends, I don’t have much time to play games alone, so for me was the best ^^ But for the PS3 and Xbox, I don’t know wich I would get if had to choose only by these 2, I think sony wins if this goes like a marathon, but right now, xbox is the best choice, I’m not a FPS fan but It has more games for it. I love to play online and PS3 gets a point for me here because If I buy the xbox and play for 2 years online I get the price for the PS3 here. I think between these two is really a personal choice.
So if you bought any of these, just enjoy what you have, any of them are a great choice and you will not have to buy a new one so soon, so relax guys ^^ Just take a look at the current games list and some future games list, the funcionality taht you would be using (wifi and etc) and go for it ^^
Cya all ^^
I just wanna see some free internet play on the 360. thats the only thing i really dont like about it right now.
I have all 3 systems so I feel I can give a pretty good unbiased account of the strengths and weaknesses of all of them
Wii:
Good party games, nice addons (like the iphone)easy for people that dont normally play video games to pick up. Good for parties and the parents. lots of “family” orient stuff
Online play sucks, trying to get in a group of friends is painful, no online voice chat. mario overkill….
PS3:
graphics can be amazing and somewhat mindblowing, free wifi, bluray, media center. Lots of life left.
Few exclusives, online is free but again kind of a pain to orgainize yourself, avitar system is boring, Online interface could be better.cant play PS2 games unless you have the uber PS3 which i’m not sure they even make anymore….
Xbox 360:
Amazing online experience and user friendly, lots of games, Netflix instant sreaming video, easy menu navigation, plays reg xbox games, large “arcade” selection. like PS3 great media center.
you have to pay to play others online,RROD with about 45% failure rate (more so in older models), noisy, still has long life yet, but will probably be upgraded before the PS3 is.
Overall:
Wii is great for families to play with eachother, if you have a party going on with a mixed crowd, and if you cant get enough mario and zelda
PS3 is great if you like bluray and have HDTV, enjoy having the sleek and sexy black box, and if you need a media center to organize movies and music, games are lackluster but will most likely improve in the next 3-4 years.
Xbox360 is great for multiplayer online play, but you have to pay for that quality, interactive online addons are really great such as Netflix and “gameing news” ect. If you want to play games first and watch movies/listen to music 2nd its a great system.
If your only going to get one i would say its what you want out of it: family/movies/games
as far as what MS could do with thier next system…as long as I can download all my Xbox 360 information and game data onto the new one, and they can fix the failure rates it will be alright
PS3 is only 19 exclusives behind 360 according to the lists on Wikipedia. So yea PS3 is doing great.
Xbox 360-only games=173 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_exclusives
PS3-only games=154 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3_exclusives
Games include XBL , PSN and unreleased games.
BluRay is not just for movies. It is the new stage in game media. Cartridge to CD to DVD and now BluRay. BluRay holds more data than a DVD and can improve over all gaming if done right.
Digital games may unfortunately be next. Without solid media for the end user it can be a bad thing. Game developers can develop games and release only a level or 2 at once and charge you for more later on or even go the way of movies not enough of a fan base and you have a level and love the game but it did no get the needed support from the masses so the game is no longer being updated.
To everyone all for games on demand and shit, its slow. I have a hacked psp 2000, game downloads are slow!!!!!!! and psp games are small. imagine downloading full 360 games. even wit high speed itll take a day and a half. hdd space is crazy low. $100 for 120gb? micrsoft better change it to 500gb for $79.99. then they’ll get some sales.
I won’t be surprised to see more exclusives come over to PS3 if 360 doesn’t change their attitude. The “New” Xbox when compared side by side with the PS3 still couldn’t keep up with it besides look at an issue of game informer this month and check out the failure rate for the “crap box” I have done more warranty work (i.e. trades, exchanges, listening to customers cry) that when some customer comes in and asks to buy one I try my best to sell them a used PS3 cause I don’t want to have to deal with them in a couple of days when the get the red ring of cha-ching. As far as the red ring goes the new models that weren’t suppose to have that happen to them well…. they do I had a guy come in with one the other day crying about it and we didn’t believe him so we plugged it in and he sure did so we gave him a second one no charge, Boom 1 hr later he came in with his mom and they where mad I took one look at their face and sold them a PS3 and offered to trade in their crap box games at the highest rate I could he is now a happy PS3 customer. No matter what Xbox does they are going down like the Titanic.
i find all these arguments funny end off the day its each to there own,
1 my xbox is next to my router so dont need wifi as cabled is quicker
2 dont really care bout bluray as there cheap enough to by now,
3 is any1 really gonna fill 500g and if so think u might need a life
the only thing i agree with is having to pay for live but then i did get 13 months for £28 on ebay so not so bad, but thats me lol
dude wii is for casual gamers, Xbox360 and Ps3 both targets same audience . and tho I have a 360 I put my hands down to PS3 .
PS3 is more powerfull ( not in all departments tho) has better HD gaming and looks more stylish than XBOX .
Xbox on the other hand is cheaper and COd4 is played by little kids over xbl .
as for real men , they either play paintball or play games on PC . that is if real men play games . I doubt that tho.
shit for a terabyte now-a-days its fucking $130 ms better fucking step it up
