With the addition of multi – touch I think this phone is going to compete well against the other touch screen phones out there.

Mr. Jobs, if your reading this, I really hope you have some nice tricks up your sleves. That last sentance should make you worry. Even you were down on your luck at one point, you guys came up. Palm can do the same. I am not saying they will, but this a formidable opponent. It’s either the pre os on a better sexier lookiing bigger screen gsm phone with horizontal qwerty and some big name carriers, or you come out swinging sometime around June. Good luck.

So, it’s looking like I’ll be ditching my old VZW Palm for an SPCS Palm. Watched the CES outing – all 1:07 of it, and it’s great to hear it’s easy to develop for! Since VZW straps down their phones or lobotomizes their PDAs I may lean toward paying an ETF if the Pre hits the streets before October…

I’m also hoping there won’t be any pFart apps in the Palm Store…

It’s funny, but I recall a lot of the things said last year about the G1 are simply being replicated on this phone. The G1 hasn’t performed terribly well in the only area that counts, so now the media has moved on. And lookie here. . .despite having “mobile” in its DNA. . .Palm delivers a product in 2009 that they should’ve released in 2007 (i.e. before Apple sold something like 14 million iPhones and iPod Touch units, and RIM sold millions of devices, etc). Kinda sad, actually.

After watching the Palm keynote i have to say that although they did copied a lot of stuff from the iPhone which is not bad cause they did a good job, you really have to get this phone if your a Sprint user cause it is a pretty cool phone.

I sure am glad they launched this on Sprint vs. the other guys. 2 companies down on their luck will always fight harder than those who are fat cats. Further, the data network and voice network coverage, then openness story coming out of Sprint, should really make this product shine.

Awesome… It’s either this phone or an Android OS phone for me in 6 months. Apple’s complete lockdown of their devices pretty much rules them out as far as I’m concerned.

I think Palm is moving in the right direction. However, I would have hit the market with a GSM device.

The form factor is very reminiscent of HTC’s old Blue Angel which is still one of my favorite form factors.

This new operating system is a big gamble. If developers pile on, Palm just may have a chance.

Wow, an old, used-to-be leader has gotten passed up by a new arrival on the scene. The scuffled along, losing money and market share for years. They’re swirling around the drain about to die.
Then wait, the see there competitor’s dream product. The completely rip it off. Except, they tweak a few of the minor annoyances. Not too difficult.
Now if Palm could call GM and Ford and team them this simple trick we might be onto something.

I’m looking for a mobile development platform to throw my support behind. So far the iPhone is out since I don’t have a Mac and the whole process is too draconian. Android isn’t bad, but I’m not a big Java fan, so I’m hoping that a future release adds Python as an “offical” language. Palm’s webOS does look promising, though I’m curious about game development, one area I’m particularly interested in.
