Fear squasher: BlackBerry Curve 8900 still coming to AT&T
With the influx of BlackBerry Curve 8900 news lately as a result of T-Mobile’s official announcement that the highly anticipated handset would be available next month, many AT&T customers found themselves wondering why AT&T has been so quiet to date. Comments and emails have flooded BGR and plenty of other sites as well, wondering if AT&T would be passing on the Curve 8900 due to lack of 3G or as a result of botched negotiations, T-Mobile exclusivity, etc. As such, it will surely come as welcome news to AT&T-contracted BlackBerry fans that the Curve 8900 is indeed still on its way to the nations largest carrier second-largest carrier. RIM hit CES this week with a booth full of ‘Berrys and among them, a sleek new Curve 8900 all dressed up in AT&T branding. In short, nothing has changed and the Curve 8900 is still on its way to Big Blue. AT&T would hardly pass on the update to one of its best-selling handsets of course, despite the glaring lack of WCDMA. But then, that’s where the Bold comes in. While it still looks like T-Mobile will be the first to bring the Curve 8900 to market in the US, expect news on the AT&T release soon.
Thanks, Laurie!

^If so, there is still the Pearl Flip remaining. There is a CDMA version coming. To which carrier, however, I don’t know yet. There is also the Bold-in-Javelin clothing that will be out in CDMA.
Those comprise all the Blackberry models RIM is producing, so what more could Verizon want?
It’s not that Verizon is being completely shut out of new Blackberries in general. It is the waiting time that just kills me. Seeing AT&T ALWAYS get the best phones first doesn’t make me happy. Sure Verizon got the Storm, but you can hardly call that a success especially with the botched launch. Verizon will get the Niagara (9030), Jupiter (8930), and Apex (pearl flip). When is the question…
When is the question, and I am getting a bit tired of waiting for the answer. I love the service, but hate the hardware waiting…
It would be nice for the LARGEST carrier in the country to get us more then the one (storm) bb offering. I love my curve, but I am sure like most everyone lese who loves the BB i would buy a new one upon launch. (like i did with the storm, which now lives with my brother in law, nice gift huh)
its not like the 8830 does not need a face lift…it is looking a bit long in the tooth…
Why would ATT waste their time on a BB w/o 3G capability.
I thought they were getting the BB 9220???
The 9220 is a 3G HSPA version of the 8900.
This phone still makes no sense minus 3G…….WTF?!?!?!
Guys, relax you’re not gonna die without 3G…
^ Especially on a Blackberry. You’re sorry ass should be working if using a Blackberry. If it’s not, get a toy like the Palm Pre.
I can haz 8900 with 3G?
Uhm I’m quite sure “Big Blue” is IBM, not AT&T.
I’ve “upgraded” from the Curve to the Bold – and unless you enjoy no service, call failed and dropped calls, I’d wait for the 8900. AT&T’s 3g network, at least as the Bold interacts with it, is terrible.
AT&T, please release it as soon as possible. I really want this phone.
Man it amazes me, that these conversations come up on tech blogs. Everyone on here is talking about 3G on a Blackberry. 3G’s cons far outweigh their pros. Horrible battery life, and good luck getting a signal on that. Not to mention that recently it was leaked that AT&T is going to force everyone to upgrade to a 3G phone which means this specific model will not be hitting AT&T unless it has 3G radio bands inside. Just my two cents.
Guys, I would disagree about verizon. though they do have software glitches(bluetooth problem on 8130), I still love their network and 8330 fits most of my needs.
My company is switching to ATT and will give me free pearl or curve. I am not looking forward to either one. Bold’s speed is also horrible as I loaded 5 pages on my vzw curve while my friend was trying to load first page on his bold.
I wish my company choose vzw as their provider.
Sigh…
@ Queen4111
The 9220 3G Magnum will be coming out on AT&T. Its been delayed due to problems that I cannot discusss, expect to see it end of Q3/Q4 maybe even 2010.
bb214, do you have an ETA on the Niagara?
bb214 in your post when you said “told you it was coming soon”, were you referring to the Bold coming to another carrier that you were just speaking of or the 8900 to AT&T? I wasnt sure. Thanks.
Just FYI, we usually don’t release updated phones till at least one year past the last generation mark. The Magnum is a completely different phone per say since it utilizes the touch screen technology as well. Its not like moving from the 8300 to 8350 wifi. The magnum is a whole new device. Niagra is awaiting final authorization for production, I have not seen an ETA yet but I would say around summer
@bb214: If you were not at liberty of “discussing” due to an NDA, you would not be posting on the subject. You certainly wouldn’t want to mislead by giving the wrong impression, now would you?
Around summer?!? I guess all those Q1 just went down the toilet…
Palm Pre a toy. Those are fighting words that you will have to eat boy. Just sit back and watch the fun begin. Yea haaaaa!!!!
@bb214
I love you.
and BlackBerry.
I thought captain ralph de la vega said no more non-3G PDA’s last summmer?
Must’ve realized that’s too large a task for RIM to get new models tested and out to market.
@robert B: Would you prefer “play thing” or “doorstop”?
i really do hope at&t launches before mid-march. even a month after t-mobile is fine for me. i really honestly dont want this device… i NEEED IT!
