Can 2GB RAM be able to run Vista Biz ? Vista requires 3GB min. Till XP Pro this seems fine. It looks good and biz like – the “mans” UMPC.

$1400 bucks…are the people at CES not aware of the current world markets? how does the keynote address go from talking about consumer spending shrinking in 2009-2010 by almost 6 percent to showing off TV’s for 5 grand and a 1400 dollar handheld…has there been anything i can go out and buy when it hits stores, or is all a bunch of dream toys and bargain purchases for saudi oil tycoons….

The Acer Aspire One is a lot cheaper, but it’s also a lot larger. The OQO is only appealing if you need performance better than any netbook currently on the market in a device that fits in your pant pocket.

i.e., if the fact that the Acer Aspire One is a lot larger isn’t important to you, then you have no reason to consider the OQO or find it appealing. That say nothing about the OQO as a product. That just says that it’s not for you. If you need to do your work on something that fits in your pant pocket, then the OQO is practically your only choice.

(How many people actually need to do work on something that fits in his pocket is left as an exercise for the reader.)

The OQO differs from UMPCs in that it actually does fit in your pant pocket. IIRC, while blogs may have called the OQO Model 02 a UMPC, I don’t think OQO, itself, ever has. Likewise, the pocketability is how it distinguishes itself from a netbook.

Is it an important distinction? I have no idea. The market will tell.

I don’t think its fair to compare this to the netbooks because it is 5″ and also this is a thumb-type device where as netbooks are mini-laptops. In a crowded train commute i would prefer this over a netbook.

UMPC were such a cool idea a few years ago

but with netbooks, and 60GB SSD in those netbooks, the UMPC is really starting to look overpriced. I like the built in EVDO, but onceLTE hits in a year or so you will see more and more netbooks with LTE builtin for broadband all across the country.

currently I use Acer Aspire One 160GB, with SE TM506 tethered over USB
a lot cheaper solution
