The RADEON® M86XT – 512MB is the same thing as the HD 3670 – (M86XT – 512mb) is just the sku number for the HD 3670, it just get listed for some reason on certain sites.

konklifer, good point. Well, I never ever buy extended warranties on anything, except laptops. Several people who also don’t get extended warranties have recommended that I always get extend warranties on my laptops and, in my specific case, it was useful with my current (old!) Dell Inspiron 8600, that had an HD that failed after 2 years. After I had added the warranty, Accidental Damage was only $119 and I figured I could very easily drop my Studio XPS within 3 years, whether intentionally or not (and I don’t mean intentionally) and $119 was pretty cheap considering. Wahtchathank?

They look decent, but I definitely wouldn’t pull the trigger before seeing specs like weight and dimensions. GPU options on the 1340 are decent, but a serious let down on the 1640. M86XT isn’t quite as good as the 9600m GT and isn’t as efficient. I would expect a 16″ notebook with the XPS name on it to run at least a 9650m GT and even that would be a bit of a disappointment. Why not 9700m GT? A 16″ notebook should be more than large enough considering Toshiba stuffs them into their 15″ models. I hope this isn’t indicative of a trend by dell to push “gamers” toward their over-priced Alienware line.

I was wondering if Dell could change my mind from the Zepto NOX A14 with the release of these new Studio XPS models. Looks like the answer is no. Though with a decent coupon the 1340 model running the integrated 9400m would be a nice notebook for the wife.

FYI.

The 1340 does not have the same graphics card as the 1640. While the 1640 has the standard selection as a ATI Mobility RADEON M86XT at 512MB, the 1340 has the standard selection of a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G with an upgradable option to a NVIDIA GeForce 9500M at 256MB for an additional 100 dollars.
