Thanks for the heads-up. I have been waiting for these to drop. Heading over to Dell’s site right now. I think I’m getting one.
Wow, this thing whoops the XPS m1330’s butt.
Thank you, Dell, for letting me remove Microsoft Works and McAfee Security.
Now if I could get them to knock $200 off the price and send it minus Windows.
Or you can go to Apple and get the same laptop for $2799.
^Such insight, M&M. If only there were more options beside Dell and Apple. It also helps to configure machines on a level playing field in order to compare as opposed to your reactionary shotgun blast that ends up hitting nothing.
MiniIdiot.
How odd that there’s no BluRay option…
there is a BluRay drive…just cost extra..atleast thats according to the customization options
FYI.
The 1340 does not have the same graphics card as the 1640. While the 1640 has the standard selection as a ATI Mobility RADEON M86XT at 512MB, the 1340 has the standard selection of a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G with an upgradable option to a NVIDIA GeForce 9500M at 256MB for an additional 100 dollars.
They look decent, but I definitely wouldn’t pull the trigger before seeing specs like weight and dimensions. GPU options on the 1340 are decent, but a serious let down on the 1640. M86XT isn’t quite as good as the 9600m GT and isn’t as efficient. I would expect a 16″ notebook with the XPS name on it to run at least a 9650m GT and even that would be a bit of a disappointment. Why not 9700m GT? A 16″ notebook should be more than large enough considering Toshiba stuffs them into their 15″ models. I hope this isn’t indicative of a trend by dell to push “gamers” toward their over-priced Alienware line.
I was wondering if Dell could change my mind from the Zepto NOX A14 with the release of these new Studio XPS models. Looks like the answer is no. Though with a decent coupon the 1340 model running the integrated 9400m would be a nice notebook for the wife.
I just configured mine. Ouch!
* Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9400 (6MB cache/2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB)
* Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-bit
* No Microsoft Office, No virus protection (thank God!)
* 3Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor, 24×7 Phone Support

* 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)
* 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive (thank you Dell for offering real hard drives on your laptops, not that 5400 RPM crap you’re forced to take with most other laptops)
* BluRay Disc Combo (DVD/CD read/write + BD read) Slot Load Drive
* ATI Mobility RADEON® M86XT – 512MB (wish I had another choice, but I am no gamer, so this suits me fine)

* Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1+EDR)
* 3 Year Warranty

$2,007… Eeck!
Do you really need:
* 3Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor, 24×7 Phone Support
* 3 Year Accidental Damage and LoJack Theft Protection
That’ll cost you $419 right there.
konklifer, good point. Well, I never ever buy extended warranties on anything, except laptops. Several people who also don’t get extended warranties have recommended that I always get extend warranties on my laptops and, in my specific case, it was useful with my current (old!) Dell Inspiron 8600, that had an HD that failed after 2 years. After I had added the warranty, Accidental Damage was only $119 and I figured I could very easily drop my Studio XPS within 3 years, whether intentionally or not (and I don’t mean intentionally) and $119 was pretty cheap considering. Wahtchathank?
Where does the “-$200 Promo Dell Gift Card Card – Card to arrive 6-8 weeks after purchaseRed” come in?
I did not see it when configuring.
Thanks
I saw that link on Dell’s Singapore website, bu tnot here in the US. I’m looking to get $250 off before I buy the Studio XPS 13. It looks pretty nice!
It’s configured on a ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 – 512MB [Included in Price] what is the ATI Mobility RADEON® M86XT – 512MB u guys are talking about??
The RADEON® M86XT – 512MB is the same thing as the HD 3670 – (M86XT – 512mb) is just the sku number for the HD 3670, it just get listed for some reason on certain sites.
i just bought that same exact laptop you just described minus lojack and bluray for $1308…
