Asus Eee Keyboard wows us all
Asus most definitely came to CES today packing heat and without a doubt, one of its most impressive announcements was the Eee Keyboard. We want it and we want it now. The Eee Keyboard stuffs a PC with respectable netbook-like specs into, you guessed it, a keyboard. Flat Mac-like keys and a 5-inch touchscreen display sit atop a very thin keyboard frame with a host of connections on the back – connections you potentially don’t even need, we might add. Asus’ new take on the all-in-one features Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n along with wireless HDMI and Bluetooth 2.0 meaning that short of a power cord, users can connect wirelessly to any and all required peripherals including a high definition display or HDTV. We’ll take things in a different direction – imagine carrying this puppy around with a pocket projector and having access to a full PC with a sizable projected display anywhere and everywhere you go. Specs on this innovative little piece of kit are as follows:
- Self-contained PC / keyboard combo with integrated 5-inch touchscreen display
- OS: Windows XP Home Edition
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom microprocessor
- 1GB of DDR2 DRAM
- 16GB or 32GB SSD
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Ultra Wideband HDMI
- USB 2.0 x2, VGA, HDMI, headphone and mic ports
- Weight: 2 lbs
Pricing and projected availability are still a bit of a mystery, though Asus CEO Johnny Shih claims it will be available in the next three to six months, so we’ll be waiting with bated breath. Hit the jump for two more shots.

Why is the date ‘March 2002′ ?
Dude this is lame. its like a laptop without a screen basically. So not worth it.
Hahaha, this product is definitely innovative and will be a good seller for a certain demographic.
Props to what is has done and I hope it jump starts more manufactures to follow its lead.
lol at all you mac QQ’ers
Yes, me too. Strange!
OR I could just carry my eee901 around with me and not have to worry about getting a power cord or finding a monitor….
Sounds useless to me. If you can find a monitor, there will be a PC attached, use it. If you can’t find a monitor, you may aswell have brought a laptop. If you’re still desperate to use a monitor, plug the Eee into the monitor. Job done.
Cute idea, but it’s filling a niche that isn’t there.
OMG the 80’s are back…
WTF why would you want this? I had a TI calc in school that looked better than this POS.
way cool man,gotta have 1
I wonder if it has the tech to integrate with the computer used to improve that computer
I sit just me or does this thing not look portable?
No cover or case?
I hate the keyboard its self. I like nice mechanical feedback (like Unicomp’s heavy, retro beasts, or even a Logitech DiNovo), and the one in the picture has plastic chicklets on rubber bubbles written all over it.
I hope the production version has a REAL keyboard. Something that won’t make you wonder why you payed so much for a keyboard shaped PC that types 12 ‘m’ characters every time you press any key on that side of the keyboard, and needs most of the other keys to be mashed with a hammer to sense a keypress. In other words, a keyboard shaped PC that you need to plug a keyboard into in order to use would really suck.
i just think sexysofie sounds sexier when she’s ticked off. and i can’t afford this.
wow thats absolutely gorgeous finally something to really spend the money on, love the Asus netbooks probably gonna love this – just a few months to go…
That is simply genius. And I thought Apple would be the company to bring something so out of the box into a mainstream fold. Well done, Asus!!! First my EEE 900A, now an EEE keyboard. They’re gonna have my business for a long time; I have the feeling.
I kinda dig this little ‘puter. ASUS rocks. Can’t wait to get an EEE Phone. All your base are belong to Johnny Shih, and I, for one, welcome our new ASUS overlords.
So basically its a laptop without the monitor. Not sure whats so revolutionary about that.
You know what’s amusing? A windows product review getting spammed with Mac-fanboys.
It’s kind of hard to tell who’s side I’m on too. I use or have attempted to use all three OSes.
You know what’s even more amusing? Windows fans know they don’t have to fight back.
I think this sais enough on it’s own.
I paid $45 for a wireless keyboard with trackpad integrated. No wires at all, AA batteries last forever. Stick the computer behind the TV not behind the keyboard.
change that to “touchpad” please
Wireless presentations, quick connects to HDTV’s, extreme portability, frankly this thing is great and does have a niche. Except those keys… but whatever.
To all the people saying “put Linux on it and I’ll buy it”…. what kind of Linux users are you? Go to ubuntu.com, get a live CD or make a live usb, insert, reboot, there’s your damn Linux…. where did the question of whether or not you could put linux on it ever come up? You can put Linux on just about anything, and many embedded systems are based off some form of Linux… computers you never realized had any form of an operating system. So to all those who hate Microsoft, just put Linux on it, and instead of complaining about it here, email Asus, and tell them you would be more interested in an OS’less system, people complaining here wont change anything, but if people pass on these concerns to the company, hey, maybe magic will happen.
To those who are complaining that it’s just a laptop w/o a screen, yeah… maybe, and instead of your MacBook that costs well over $1000 this will likely be under $500.
This product will be great for use as a kiosk computer, and I have a feeling that malls and convention centers will like the idea that if there is a problem with a specific machine, they can walk out, pop out power and VGA, set the other one in, and within 5 minutes walk away to take care of the problem machine, while intended users are able to continue using the kiosk, instead of watching a service tech work.
As for whoever said make it foldable and I’ll buy it…. fold up your laptop mobo… and then let me know how it goes.
Nice. I think I might have to get one if they arn’t too much?
Could you use that as an actual keyboard on a PC? It would be cooler than using my PC and laptop at the same time.
Nice one for sharing this.

Judging by the picture of touchscreen display, they were sitting on this technology for 7 years.
yes, except that it has a monitor. or did you miss that part?
Hello!
Very Interesting post! Thank you for such interesting resource!
PS: Sorry for my bad english, I’v just started to learn this language
See you!
Your, Raiul Baztepo
Why would this compete with the air? Dumbass.
They should put the screen on the middle of the keyboard, somewhat like the Nokia cellphone (forgot which model).
