Asus Eee Keyboard wows us all
Asus most definitely came to CES today packing heat and without a doubt, one of its most impressive announcements was the Eee Keyboard. We want it and we want it now. The Eee Keyboard stuffs a PC with respectable netbook-like specs into, you guessed it, a keyboard. Flat Mac-like keys and a 5-inch touchscreen display sit atop a very thin keyboard frame with a host of connections on the back – connections you potentially don’t even need, we might add. Asus’ new take on the all-in-one features Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n along with wireless HDMI and Bluetooth 2.0 meaning that short of a power cord, users can connect wirelessly to any and all required peripherals including a high definition display or HDTV. We’ll take things in a different direction – imagine carrying this puppy around with a pocket projector and having access to a full PC with a sizable projected display anywhere and everywhere you go. Specs on this innovative little piece of kit are as follows:
- Self-contained PC / keyboard combo with integrated 5-inch touchscreen display
- OS: Windows XP Home Edition
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom microprocessor
- 1GB of DDR2 DRAM
- 16GB or 32GB SSD
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Ultra Wideband HDMI
- USB 2.0 x2, VGA, HDMI, headphone and mic ports
- Weight: 2 lbs
Pricing and projected availability are still a bit of a mystery, though Asus CEO Johnny Shih claims it will be available in the next three to six months, so we’ll be waiting with bated breath. Hit the jump for two more shots.

Man this is hot,
its a shame no one does a regular keyboard with this styling,
the black keys and touchscreen are great enough as it is, but the fact that they are _backlit_ just seals the deal.
If anyone can get a regular keyboard version of these out soon that would be sweet.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a future product from apple as a refresh for their recent desktop keyboards, but even if they release now, Asus have still outdone them for including a whole PC in there.
Kudos Asus, kudos
amiga anyone?
Is it just me or doesn’t this just look like a keyboard with an ipod touch attached?
sexysofie they dont want your bandwagon money anyways.
Well, wheres the innovation ? its the commodore amiga 500/600/1200, atari 520, commodore 64/128 going back again… wow, but with modern specs, jejeje
where do I insert the tape? I want to play M.U.L.E.
Make it a foldable keyboard so I can use my PDA phone with it and I might be interested.
How different is it from a laptop minus the screen and the battery?
So I have to plug my keyboard into the top of this thing? Where’s the PS/2 port?
(/joke)
Hopefully the touchscreen can be used as a trackpad. It would also be interesting to use the touchscreen as a numberpad.
Will it come with Ubuntu? I really don’t want any type of Windows.
Great; A whole new world of Kiosks. I didn’t know that Wireless HDMI even existed! Why wouldn’t they use the wireless microwave tech they have on ThinkGeek for the Power? they it would be completely wireless!!
I don’t know if I would like looking to the side and typing. They could have split the keyboard in the middle and put the screen there.
Ha ha!! Brilliant and so true!
“The C64 was an amazing machine when it was introduced in January of 1982. It had a whopping 64 kilobytes of user RAM, 16 colors at a resolution of 320 x 200 pixels, 8 color sprites, and sound that could rival a dedicated sound synthesizer of its day.”
[celz Said: its a portable computer dummy...]
Yeah and at what price… i mean if its anything near 1/4 of a laptop then YOU have got to be a dummy too.
Does it do minesweeper?
Very nice keybord!
its a fully-functioning computer that is built into a keyboard. its sorta mac style where they put the computer into the montitor, except better.
add this, http://www.find.pcworld.com/62024
its a mini sized projector…
and you have a desktop on the go…
awesome stuff.
photoshopped
When they offer linux on it I’ll buy one.
I must have one!!
that is the coolest thing i have ever seen.
If you could put a linux on it or if it were to come with linux that thing would great.
MAC users making fun of XP. The fact is XP is almost universal. If I owned a MAC, the hard drive would be partitioned so XP could be installed. XP Home is actually better than Professional. Requirements for XP: 233 Mhz, 64MB RAM. There is no one bootlegging OSX.
a few weeks ago i ripped of the lcd form my decade old dell inspiron laptop. the lcd was already destroyed. so i hook it up to external lcd as i needed a windows machine.
since then, i have actually enjoyed my glorified keyboard and have been talking about how someone should build a legit product that wirelessly connects to screens.
i’d buy this or some variant if its less than $300
“imagine carrying this puppy around with a a pocket projector and having access to a full PC with a sizable projected display anywhere and everywhere you go.”
The problem with this gadget is people don’t have money to buy it. People everywhere in the US is struggling to pay their rent and food bills – so I have no idea why the person who wrote this is so enthusiastic.
