Sling Media announces iPhone SlingPlayer application, HD Mac streaming

Well, Sling has gone and done it again. This time they’ve got some iPhone app nonsense for your TiVo-addicted souls. You might remember the initial “concept” version, but the new actual application was created within Apple’s SDK guidelines, thus making it App Store friendly. Sling is aiming to get this out in Q1, so let’s hope they make it this time. Pricing will most likely be the same as their other SlingPlayer Mobile applications — $29.99 — though they haven’t announced that yet.

If you’re a Mac user, they have also got somethin’ cooking for as well. Look forward to HD streaming through Sling.com. It’s essentially a web-based Mac SlingPlayer that links up just perfectly with your brand new PRO-HD box. Good stuff all around, guys.

OMGWTFBBQ! Just when I was about to sell my Iphone they go and do this. If it only works with wifi that will suck but this is still great news. Now how about flash for the iphone.

I would bet my life on wifi only. At&t does not want this to be a network hog. Not to mention sling just released the app for blackberry’s and guess what! its wifi only. I can not imagine at&t releasing this over their weak 3G network.

Oh man, that would duck if it was Wifi only but I guess I’ll take that over nothing. At least I could watch more than now. Sprint so has an advantage over this. Plus why can all of ATT WM users do it and no Iphoners?!

Have all you gone mad? Do you honestly think the client will be wifi only? Dream on. 3G and wifi people.

Also whoever said the Bold version was wifi only just lost major geek points.

This app and all clients ( mac, pc, mobile devices, etc. ) should be free to support sales on the required set top boxes. Charging for these features in addition to the box is BS.

keymaker, you must have run Sling Mobile on TMobile’s EDGE because it runs very well on any network even slightly faster than that.

@MackMan37 – what are you talking about that the Blackberry Slingbox client is WiFi only? It isn’t and this won’t be either. Get your facts straight.

There’s a YouTube client on the phone. Bandwidth wise, this wouldn’t be much different.

Hell, I’ve even had pretty good success running the BlackBerry client on my 8320 with a strong EDGE connection.

P.S. BoyGenius, any word on the rumors going out there that the Curve 8900 will actually be released Feb. 11?

How come when I had a HTC WM6 phone with sling player Cingular/ATT had NO problem with streaming via 3G/HSPDA/WiFi, but all of a sudden its on the iPhone and now its all bad?! We pay for UNLIMITED data, so leave us alone and let us use our Data we PAY for! I used to pay as much for a data plan that I did for regular Cable internet at my house, the cell companies need some heavy regulation and price fixing in the USA, we are so far behind other counties its embarrassing…
