iTunes is DRM-free, folks!

Mr. Phil hasn’t announced this yet, but after opening iTunes, we’re now presented with an option to upgrade our library (of UMG music) to DRM-free iTunes Plus status! It looks like it costs $0.30/song to upgrade to iTunes Plus, but this also includes music videos at $0.60/video! So there should be no DRM restrictions on those as well. So happiez.
Updating…
Alright, it’s just been announced, so here’s the run down:
- Pricing at $0.69, $0.99, and $1.29 based on the labels and how old the song is
- All songs in iTunes will eventually be DRM-free
- In addition to pricing, as previous rumored, you can now download all music from your iPhone over 3G instead of just Wi-Fi only!

@JustAGuy
Easier to buy from iTunes? Maybe for a retiree in Florida. I don’t hate Apple. I enjoy using several of their products, but I’ll call a spade a spade when warranted. You said let’s be honest. I couldn’t agree more. The problem is that I have yet to see any honesty. All I’m seeing is fanboyism and lemmings giving His Jobsness a free ride rather than taking him to task. Why can’t people simply be impartial fans and dish out criticisms at the same time? There’s no need for blind loyalty.
@backbeat
How about waiting until your ball sack drops and getting a GED before opening your pie hole with nothing constructive or positive to contribute to society, huh tough guy?
I bought a song a while ago and it was already iTunes plus. When i converted it to mp3 it gave it to me in 320 bitrate. Are all songs 320 bitrate after conversion?
Whats the bitrate for amazon?
Anyone else having problems getting their libraries updated? I’m in the US (so that’s not the problem), but so far I’ve gotten two “fail” messages about my credit card info (which I’ve used multiple times before). I put in a new card, but have been waiting several hours for the “ready to download” email to come (yes, I’ve checked spam folder).
I haven’t tried to upgrade my library yet. But I would guess that the servers are getting slightly overloaded as everyone tries to download literally millions of new files all at once. That probably is why you haven’t recieved your email yet.
@ Prof.
I am not saying I can’t buy a track from Amazon, download it, then import it into iTunes, THEN plug in my iPod (and yes, I have done it). I am capable (and I would bet my father could even do it). However, it IS easier to simply click on a song and have it be there, plug in my iPod or iPhone and have it be there. 5 steps versus 2. so HONESTLY, if I use iTunes (the program), using iTunes (the store) is still easier, merely because of the integration. Lazy? perhaps. Honest, always.
@Prof. Moriarty,
FYI apple haters are just as annoying as fanboys.
