AT&T suffering a data outage, again

Just one short week after AT&T suffered a major network outage across much of the northeast and beyond, reports are flooding our inbox yet again complaining of problems. This time, only data seems to be affected but reports are coming in from up and down the east coast. We’re still sitting pretty in the NYC area with no problems connecting via 3G, but plenty of readers are complaining of repeated error messages when attempting to connect. Voice seems to be unaffected but if you live on the east coast and you were planning to stay on top of Apple’s keynote at Macworld later today, AT&T may have other plans for you. Unless you have a buddy you can call to keep you on top of the reports, you may want to find a computer until the issues are resolved. We wonder if a power outage will be to blame, as was reported last week. So, east coasters, how you holding up? Drop us a line below in the comments if you’ve been affected.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I’m in MD about an hour south of DC, had connection issues this morning (I’m outside of 3G area by about 40 miles). Phone had the E and plenty of bars, but when I loaded anything data-related, I got a “Could not connect to data network” error. This was about two hours ago. Appears to be fine for last hour and a half.
Noticed my iphone 3g started on Edge, then wifi last nite. (Never saw E before on it.) 3g back up this morning (central NJ)
Had some trouble with 3G data in MD/VA this morning but it seems to be cleared up.
AT&T is sooo god awful. Wonder what excuse they will cook up this time..
I’m just outside of Boston.
I have had no 3g today since restarting my phone at 6:47am.
Edge was not working as well.
Restarted again at 11:00am EST.
Seems OK now.
Still feeling the pain from when AT&T had cable and internet service. Though the people are nice, I’m always wary of AT&T service.
Part of the conversion process with 1900 versus 850?
This just came through.
Confirmation from AT&T they are having data issues.

I guess now that there are no power outages we’ll see what they cook up this time around. It might be their downgrading of their 2G that’s causing this. They really should work on their network coverage because this is getting ridiculous. Every week there’s a different issue
Boston and CT seem to be out for iPhones and Outlook Push.
Suffolk county, New York no problems here
“But the iphone has wifi!!! Wifi is everywhere!! Whats the problem?”
then whats the point of paying $30 to AT&T for Iphone data plan.

Well am at home right now so my iphone is on WiFi, so as soon as i drive 1 1/2 block out it will default back to 3G & as soon as i arrive at work in 10 minutes it will again hop on WiFi all by itself so i might not even notice the outage. 3G is good but is not something you want if you already have WiFi, it’s also about 20x slower than WiFi, 50% of the time am at home where i have Wifi & 30% am at work where we also have super fast wifi & 20% am on the 3G network cause am not ether at home or work
At 8AM, I could not connect to anything data in and around Philly.
But wait…
A network issue that does not affect voice connections… A data network related issue that is resolved by a reboot on the phone… One word… SKYNET!
Was the 2G migration to Band II ever confirmed? IIRC that was just a rumor.
No data in Jersey either. AT&T has to be hands downt THE MOST UNRELIABLE wireless carrier ever.
Sure they’re big and bad with cool phones, but the quality really blows.
3g isn’t working in DC area, has been off and on most of the morning. edge seems to work a little better, but is also experiencing problems.
I called customer dis-service twice, sat on the phone for 30 minutes each time, only to be told by someone who barely speaks english that they don’t know of any problems.
Looking good in Boston!
No 3G voice/data in Metro Cleveland. GSM working just fine.
@Marc Flores: Both my wife and I were having trouble with AT&T in LA last night as well(she has an iPhone, I have a Tilt).
I can’t imagine the nightmares when iPhone users start downloading music over 3G. Yikes.
Data outage in Eastern Texas — starting at the Texas/Louisiana Border, and continuing up through parts of Dallas/Ft. Worth.
I work for AT&T, and we do know there IS a problem. Technicians are supposedly at the cell sites, but we’ll see. :\
To all of you who’ve called in and are upset, I apologize for not caring, lol. I am affected too.
Everything fine today with my 3g. I’m in CT.
has gone and left

Get sprint….
At&t Data connection was okey this morning but after 12pm it went off. No 3g data in Jersey?? That’s something to talk about. Hope it recovers soon.
