AT&T suffering a data outage, again
Just one short week after AT&T suffered a major network outage across much of the northeast and beyond, reports are flooding our inbox yet again complaining of problems. This time, only data seems to be affected but reports are coming in from up and down the east coast. We’re still sitting pretty in the NYC area with no problems connecting via 3G, but plenty of readers are complaining of repeated error messages when attempting to connect. Voice seems to be unaffected but if you live on the east coast and you were planning to stay on top of Apple’s keynote at Macworld later today, AT&T may have other plans for you. Unless you have a buddy you can call to keep you on top of the reports, you may want to find a computer until the issues are resolved. We wonder if a power outage will be to blame, as was reported last week. So, east coasters, how you holding up? Drop us a line below in the comments if you’ve been affected.

I was having a problem, so I turned my phone off and back on; it seems to be working fine now.
Working fine on EDGE here in the burbs north of Philly.

This is funny since we haven’t had any reports of any outages. Normally we’re swamped by now if something like this happens.
I’m in NYC, and as soon as I tried to access mail this morning, I received a message indicating that the data connection could not be activated. Not surprised at all.
It was down earlier this morning, all is well now.
The Iphone rocks. I hate At&T though. I am about to switch back to Verizon and go with a regular PDA. At&T is not reliable. I drop a ton of calls if I leave my iphone on the 3g network. At&T told me to only use the edge network if I didnt want to drop calls. No thanks
Las Vegas has spotty 3G now, and iPhone voice is awful. Data connections have been dropping, but it seems up this morning. 2G/Edge data is now non-existent for about a week in many areas of town. It is difficult to use the phone on 2G at all, and most of us have switched full-time to 3G.
So glad I got rid of my iPhone 3G…to much babysitting..it was like using a Windows Mobile Phone…phew.
Get off AT&T… I did, haven’t ever been happier. In my entire life.

My boss is in NYC and is having trouble with his 3G

Dataoutages.com hasn’t received ONE single notice about any outage. We’ve been unable to verify that this is even happening.
But the iphone has wifi!!! Wifi is everywhere!! Whats the problem?

I did see it and my auto complete finished off the wrong name by mistake when I commented before. We’re debating about sending out a notice about this as it appears to be back up. The strange part is, I have sales people that are in the affected area’s and they’ve been using their BB’s all morning with no complaints and they are on AT&T
I actually noticed that my 3g iphone skipped a day on the calendar and it’s now January 7th. I went in under set date and time and changed it manually but as soon as you switch it back to automatic the date goes back to the 7th.. anyone having similar issues?

It must just be me who doesn’t life in the land of Wifi City because my and my buddy (who has the iphone on ATT) can almost never find wifi for him to use. Im on Verizon now with the Storm and am becoming less impressed with it daily but come on ATT!! All these outages are getting a little out of hand. I was considering picking up the iphone but it is really important for me to have: A) A phone i like and B) A phone i can actually use. So far Apple has “A” covered but ATT….not so much with “B”
Couldnt sling this AM from Brooklyn, NY. Bold shows 3G but no connection.
I had five bars between about 7-10am but wasn’t able to make a data connection anywhere. Now it seems to be working. I’m in DC.
I’m in north Jersey and NYC…been having problems with data all morning.
I live in LA and I was having major data issues last night. Then my BB wouldn’t even connect to the network. Where my signal bars normally appeared, it would say “SOS.” My sister is a few miles away and her iPhone had intermittent coverage, too. I called AT&T from a land line last night and they told me they’d already received a few complaints from my area.
No 3G in North Jersey for me for a while. But after reading some comments above I did a reboot and now it’s working. Odd.
