My 19 year old step son wanted a Blackberry Curve and up to that point did not have a smart phone and passed his original Shadow to me. Having changed my ROM in my z3 Rizr and knowing Windows Mobile OS can be modified I did my level best to get all the crap T-Mobile put on the phone and disabled at the same time thanks to some folks many of us are familiar with and before my screen went dark, I did not appreciate how much that phone replaced between my z3 and my Dell Axim x51v and it too has been upgraded to 6.1. I understand the frustration with T-Mobile and the lack of 3G nationwide at this point in time, but how many of us are in reality are using 3G away from home? When driving, I'm on a blue-tooth headset, not surfing the net or texting. When I review by habits, while I will text during severe weather events to EMA and NWSFO in my state, what I rely on is e-mail. We can fuss up and down all we want about what the Shadow 2009 should have, but it's price point is reflective of it being a "mid entry" phone. All of as of this date are salivating at what T-Mobile and HTC are making available for users - HTC Rhodium (T-Mobile Wing 2/II), HTC Maple (T-Mobile Dash 2/II) and HTC Cupcake (T-Mobile G2 with Android OS). At another website it is known that the upcoming Wing 2 will have 3G and Wi-Fi and will be the flagship smart phone for the foreseeable future. What hasn't been released at this date is its price which those of us with upgrades looking at the AT&T website can realistically expect to be at least $299, maybe higher. At the price point, I expect 3G. The Shadow 2009 is currently priced at $149 after a $50 rebate. This phone has it's place in the T-Mobile stable and for all the criticism this phone has underwent, it is the perfect introduction to Windows Mobile and for it's criticism the OS is excellent for those of us who wish to modify our phones. I remember telling myself I'd miss my z3 and I did when I went to the Shadow. The Shadow for all its faults is not an excellent phone or a poor phone. It is what it is and all the noise we're making about this phone will be overshadowed by what is now presumed to be July releases of the Wing II and Dash II. Stay tune! I agree with Andy. The shadow is a great phone for people who are just getting into smartphones and makes the transistion from a feature phone really nice. Some smartphones (mostly winmo) are just all business and no fun, and the shadow gives the user a fun, easy to use device yet also has the power to do some multi tasking and business oriented stuff. As far as the browser goes, well its deffently horrible compared to my g1, but as long as you dont use internet explorer, and download "skyfire" or opera mobile, it should make the browsing expereince bearable.
